I think Larry Perkins was getting 600hp out of his 304 VS?? so perhaps that can be the target.Targa West 08 looks like a possibility..Jesus ! Welby! You will need 500HP to carry the cage!!! I am using Wheels on WideBay in June as one of my observation runs to get my National Rally License.

Yes Rory , the cage is a bit heavy, but we will cut some weight out of the occupants.
Starting tommorrow, no more donuts.
The pedal box is a Decel, pretty piece of kit too.
There are pics from Rory's thread -
http://www.gmh-toran...&highlite=decel
page 18.
Horse power from the Ian Tate engine is a docile 400 Hp, with the emphasis on longevity and torque.
We had spoken to Larry Perkins who was initially happy to build us an engine, but when we flew over to Melbourne to get the deal started, he wouldn't see us and his front man Damian declined to take our money.
Called in to see Ian on the way back to the airport.
Gearbox is to be the excellent Tremec TKO but at this time we have not chosen a clutch.
The cage was built by Steve Maitland who does all the work for Maximum Motorsport, the Subaru boys behind Dean Herridge. Championship car builders who know what they are doing.

Ordered in October last year, the building boom here in the west meant that they didn't start it till the beginning of March.
I laid some paint down but it didn't take, so with the car gone for a few weeks, it's a good opportunity to redo the floor.
Heres a before and after.

whats with all the sand and no grass?
Rory is right, the grass was pulled up in readiness for the slab, i thought it would take a couple of weeks, I just didn't expect it to take a couplke of months.
Dont you have any good engine builders in WA?
Haha, none that wanted the job!, everyone wants to play LS1 & 2. Seriousley, when we started planning the car, we wanted a group c era car. Not so much a replica, but a car built as if we were about to enter a Group C race in 78/79.
Some of the thinking went to using some of the guys who cut there teeth on these cars, Harrop for example (don't get me started !) I spoke to Larry here at Barbaggallo 2 years back and he was keen. We had our hands on a genuine Repco L34 block then, and he was very keen on building the motor.
Unfortunately , the block was not to be and when we flew over to meet him earlier this year, he declined to talk about building the engine.
It was a bit of a blow, but it led us to meet with Ian Tate instead. He has been terrific and is well into the build now.
Funny thing, i was speaking to PB about the build over the last couple of years and twice he asked me if Tate-o was going to "do me an engine". I told him both times that i had tried to get in contact with Ian but had no success. I had tried, but not terribly hard as we had already spoken to LP.
I guess in hindsight i'd rather have a Tate Engine than a Perkins one, considering our plan and the history of these men, Torana and the sport back then.
We haven't drifted too far off course. Horsepower will be down by todays standards, but ok for the day.
I would have liked to have had a super T10 in as well, but the only couple we've come across haven't passed inspection.
So yes Rory, we'll be pulling a bit of weight around, but it should still be a hoot.
Datto did you trial fit the pedals in the well?..There is not a lot of flat floor there up against the fire wall....
We have trial fitted it, luckily i've got duck's disease so we can pull it towards the seat a bit.
We may also lower the steering wheel a bit and move the seat back a bit further than standard.
Seat fitting yet to be completed.
Pics to follow.
