The missus also fitted the fuel filler neck, number plate bracket & tail lights. Went to check out the new rear side trims we got to find that they appear to be made 25mm too short!!

Looks like we need to talk to boomfunk. At least he knows what Torries are supposed to have in them. We should've been talking to him from the start. :fool:

Looks like you have been supplied UC hatch trim...the upper floor in the boot area on a UC is higher than an LX.

Those are HQ mounts, but don't they sit the engine the lowest which is what you want?

Yep, your right. We did discover that if you can swap the mounts on the brackets left to right, this will also affect height. I can't really go any lower as the sump won't will be close to the steering rack. Has about 8-10mm now.

Hi, truely thorough build this. Excellent to see the commitment and build quality being invested into the car. Your rewards will be long service return.

Regarding the engine height and clearance to the cross-member, My only suggestion there would be to lower it using a combination or mounts/parts or modify your original mounts to drop the engine.. you only need several millimeters of clearance..beware, engine mounts do sag/settle over time.
Doing this in combination of a engine torque limiting device ( read: chain restrictor or wire cable restrictor ) mounted between the engine mount main fastner bolt through the x-member and directly above to the bolt hole in the engine number pad, does elliminate 90% of your excess engine roll. Combining this with locating the "contact" points in the transmission tunnel, use of a good size hammer and punch ( to stretch the trans tunnel steel ) can make some room for the trans to pop up and mayby provide you with the clearance you need.

Alternatively cut the xmember top and reprofile the clearance provided between the sump ...and cut the top out of the trans tunnel and put in a blister

My xmember mod - Prodominately done for high energy sump installations- ever tried getting a engine out with one on and no xmember mod ---need to drop the xmember from the body to drop the engine

Found out today that you can get a smaller dissy cap, just getting dimensions to see if that will sort out the clearance problem there. Looks like it should.
The angle of the dangle might be the angle of the photo. I just aimed the phone under the car. We will have to wait & see.

Yep. Done it twice so far. Seems much easier to me than dropping the K frame.

Yep contact boomfunk all their bits fit, and are good quality

Yeah, we some of Boomfunks bits. We are happy with what he supplied us. As I said, we should have gone to him for all our interior pieces.

Actually I have removed a 350 chev with Hi-energy sump fitted...as you say...its tight. But what I have also done is rather than section the cross member^^^...I have modified the front of the sump. I have triangulated the front corners. Next time I am out in the shed I will take a pic of my sump.
As my car is an IPRA Race Car, I cant do that mod to the cross member...so no good for my car.

Finally got the missus excited  & got her in the shed to do some work on the Torry. Pretty well got the carpet, dash & rear seats sorted. We will leave all the vinyl & roof lining for the pros. Got the stereo amped up - a ipod hooked directly to an amp under the seat, 6x9's in the back. ipod lives in the console, under the armrest.

Lots of unfinished stuff in here, but I thought I would give the other half a hand on the inside. Still waiting for another dissy, engine mounts, fuel lines....... Got some new rocker covers to go on, just making sure the motors in there for the last time before we fit them.

Thanks. The glovebox is a bit darker than the rest of the dash, but other than we are happy with it. The gearstick fits like glove, I was sure it was going to be too tall.

Yep. Exhaust next week.

If only it was legal to drive it like that everyday....

I was tempted to take a run around the block, but all the towns coppers live on my block  All 3 of em, they have me surrounded.....

Oon Friday I'll do the 700k round trip to Perth & get it measured for the rims, then on Sat drop it into Albany for the exhaust & get the rest of the trim fitted. That's the plan, but we will see.
Hopfully by the time the rims turn up it will be ready for it's number plates.....

Yeah, went to Stans. They seem to hold onto the measurements pretty tightly so you buy the rims from them.
What time does your old man get here? Not much movement in our house too early on a Sunday..

Car has been to the trimmers & is back in the shed so we should be able to get back onto it. Promised the kids I wouldn't do anything this weekend. :fool:

Haven't decided on rims yet. Probably go 17x8's all round, so I can stick the kids & crap in the back & not scrap. Motorvations too hard, if I do any shows it will only be local & I don't think that my Torries show quality anyhow.
Next time I'm in Borden I might try to catch up with your old man.

Either you westies have a very high quality of carshows, or you're mistaken. I suspect the latter

All the interior's done. Only a few small jobs left to do before licence.
Run it up today to set the timing & a bloody lifter has got lazy (I hope that's all it is) sounds like shit out the left pipe, temp gauge won't work but works when the sender wire is shorted out so it looks another sender is needed.

Not far now.

Been messing around with plugs, leads, dissy cap in an effort to track down the miss. Had to re set the tappet clearance, as they were all very loose. Engine sounds alive again now but still has a funny choof out the left hand pipe. almost sounds like a burnt valve. It does clean up after 10 mins or so, so I'll leave it for now & get it licensed.
My link

Rear rims arrived, the front rims were incorrect, so we have another 4 week wait. Trying to aim for license next week on the Commodore rims.
