Been messing around with plugs, leads, dissy cap in an effort to track down the miss. Had to re set the tappet clearance, as they were all very loose. Engine sounds alive again now but still has a funny choof out the left hand pipe. almost sounds like a burnt valve. It does clean up after 10 mins or so, so I'll leave it for now & get it licensed.
My link

Rear rims arrived, the front rims were incorrect, so we have another 4 week wait. Trying to aim for license next week on the Commodore rims.

Anyone got any thoughts on this miss out the left pipe? I'm not running any cross pipe. The only thing i can think of is the no2 lead has different ohm reading to the rest. I swapped it over to no1 before I did the tappet clearance & it made no difference, then. I haven't done it since.
Cheers.

I would run the engine with no 2 lead disconnected to confirm it is the cylinder with the problem. Once you have pinned it down to a cylinder then I would eliminate the plug and lead by swapping in a working plug and lead from the other bank. If the plug and lead do not fix the problem then check compression on that cylinder.

Or check compression while he has the plug out?
Not a true reading with the other plugs in but at least an indication?

Use your timing light put on all the leads one by one if it does not flash on one you have found it and it is a electrical problem . If that does nt work then its a mechanical miss

Thanks for the pointers. Have swapped all plugs & leads on the left side - no differnce. Did the timing light trick on the leads, all looks good. Did a compression test & all have around the 150 - 160 PSI. The missus gave it a big rev (by mistake) & it seemed to clear up somewhat. Need to get it liceneced & take for a good drive to see what happens from that. :spoton: We haven't burnt 20lts of fuel yet so it still maybe settling a lifter in? It dosent rattle but.

Checked the lights to day as we are booked in for a wheel alignment & licence check on Tuesday & the bloody sparky has wired up the rear indicators together! When you put the l/h or r/h indicator on both rear lights flash. AAAARRRGGGGGHHHH. :furious:
I just rang him, so hopefully we will sort it out tomorrow.....

89King, you jinxed me! All was sweet at the license inspection. Graeme (the inspector) was that wrapped with the car all he wante to do was get in it for the test drive! All passed & sweet, faxed the forms to head office, should be good to go in a couple of hours. Head office, or is that orrifice, rang him & they wren't happy with the tyre size. Said they are too tall. Graeme said that's because they are on Commodore rims with Commodore hubs. Oh, says head office, it's a modified car then, here's the form to fill in...... :Headbang2:

Now I need an engineers who wouldn't mind a pleasant drive out to the country.

I did get to drive it for about a kilometre. Higlight of the week.

Getting there Datto. Still don't know what to do with the rocker covers.

Those tyres are 255/40Rx17. Front will either be 235/40, 235/45 or 245/40's. I have the 235/40's, but they might be a bit small on the diameter side.

Hi Tony,
Your car has turned out a treat, its a credit to you, well done.
I have a TKO 600 for my hatch, did you have to move the shifter position or did you leave it in the standard position as in the photo of it siting in the box?

Cheers Paul.

STD position in Welbys
But he had to get a different shifter
Seats might be alittle further back though

Im pretty sure you can reverse the shifter plate allowing you to have two positions with the standard plate, but weather you need to do this I dont know.
Yeah it looks like Welbys seats are further back and has a bent stick to allow for this, I would also guess he would have a peddle box as well.

Right on a couple of counts.

The shifter point is smack bang middle of the factory hole.

I do run a pedal box but have short legs.

The drivers seat is no further back than normally located and i use the standard steering columm.

I swapped the original straight shifter (hurst) for the dog leg to bring it closer to an arc dropping my hand from the steering wheel.

Back to the topic, those rear wheels look awesome, great job so far! So close....

As it is in the box. Welby gave me the std shifter hole measurments & that's where we cut.

Datto, do they leak?

Datto, I have also noticed that they don't have the front & rear bolt holes to hold them down. Only the centre ones.

Guess you'll have to ask him about it

And do they leak.... I'll tell you in 20 yrs when I finish my car

If those are the Bocam ones, mate of mine runs them on his Monaro and they are fine. Rubber gaskets.
