there was an aftermarket "intelligent" setup available that was suitable for use with modified motors... but i can't remember the detailsWhich you cant do because they are an analogue system..there is nothing to edit..no chip to change. With a lumpy cam the inlet airflow wouldn't be constant and this would cause the vane of the airflow meter to swing backwards and forwards....causing more fuel to be injected than is required.

But as was discussed in another thread...you could modify the sensors of the stock system to get around their weaknesses.
For example the air flow meter is a vane style job, it has a flap that opens wider the more air that flows thru it...this is a restriction...if you were to remove the variable switch section and connect it to the throttle linkages it could still work correctly yet not inhibit airflow.
But it also depends on what the aim was...if you just wanted a simple EFI system I would just plonk the stock gear on and drive it. If the aim was all out performance I would go programmable engine management...with whatever other mods you wanted.

At the end of the day i think you would be more happy with some webbers, or any kind of forced induction.

( is'nt that what ya do with commodores )
I'm not sure on the exact specs coz I did'nt build it but it was some thing like this
Red 202 block, 12 port alloy yella terra head, stage 3 heat seeker cam, Steel crank, genie extractors, VK injection, Gas reaserch throtle body, cold air intake, electronic ignition , gilmer drive belt and backed by a celica 5 speed and lsd.
I was gonna add a castlemain rod shop supercharger kit but I ended up going with a V8 insted. I'm spewin now coz the head alone was worth more than what I sold the car for.
But trust me THIS THING HAD NUTS.
Apparently 7K was spent on the drive line and gas system and was built by one of the HRT engineers. But who knows ?

Alloy head? that head doesn't look like one to me...but you are right, they are worth a ton...mine cost $2300 new

Something like a Cyber lumpy cam?Which you cant do because they are an analogue system..there is nothing to edit..no chip to change. What did you do about the injector holes? I was thinking of turning up some 'plugs' on a lathe and then sealing them in with some gasket sealer.

You might find welch plugs to fit or tap them and find grub screws or threaded plugs from Pirtek or Enzed. Now thats what i want to do... VK EFI manifold with a Gas research carb bolted onto it.

Now this is just my 20cents worth, your car, your money, do what you want.
But this is my opinion.
I went thru the same process more than a decade ago. I wanted to keep the 202 in my car but wanted the grunt as well. My process was this, a VK EFI 202 Black motor and gearbox/trans would set me back about $1500 with the computer and loom, and overall the swap was straight forward, cross member, tailshaft, diff and rad all the same, simple after the auto sparky wires it in. But then there are these issues, the VK injector system take the injector timing from a sensor behind the head and mounted at the top of the bellhousing with a timing mark on the flywheel, so you have to use the VK setup auto or manual with a cable clutch, clearance for the sensor becomes a problem because its a tight fit and its plastic and expensive to break one while fitting the engine but a pain to fit after the engine is in. Now in SA you must run a cat converter and change your fuel filler and the pollution gear etc just to pass Transport SA (our RTA) Next problem, the EFI 202 is good for 170BHP according to GMH (if thats to be believed) now your 6cyl brakes wont stop you so time for an upgrade, V8 booster is simple but the six wont produce enough vac to run it so your back to square one, so your up for mods to get passed the RTA. And only 170HP so do the mods on the motor like your implying and guys here are saying $3-5k should do it, and I'd think $2500 should get you started with a basic setup right?
Now consider this, 253 V8, 180BHP straight out the box, stock, cost to convert to V8, well engine, trans, brakes, diff, tailshaft, radiator, I would be suprised if it cost more than $1500, done in a day, no dramas with RTA and would give the 202 a good run for its money, easy. Spend the extra $1k on mods like a decent carb and cam/heads and 200-220BHP easy a bit more than you'll get from the 202 for the same bucks. Go 308, 240-250BHP stock, the 202 wouldn't blow wind up its backside.
But like I said, your car, your money, do what you want.

I could be wrong but I thought E.F.I was only available with auto?the injector timing from a sensor behind the head and mounted at the top of the bellhousing with a timing mark on the flywheel, so you have to use the VK setup auto or manual with a cable clutch,
