Only 5 weekends to go... my engine is still in bits but going back together as we speak. My race and spare are both pulled apart at the mo.

Routine maintenance or chasing extra neddies?

My car is in bits as well, lost 3rd gear at the last practice day, so been busy sorting that out, plus I decided to give the suspension an overhaul... lots to do!

At round 5 at WP the Race engine had 3 ring lands let go late in race 3.... but damage was only minor, very lucky.

Spare was fitted for round 6 and it blew a head gasket and spun a few bearings in Qual so I packed up and went home... But I just scrapped enough points for the year to still win my class

So race has gotten a full rebuild including new pistons of course.
And spare will have to wait until after Bathurst.

Such is life... I dont have any sponsors, I have been totally self funded for the past 3 years, so I have to do what I can when I can. This year might be a quiet one for me to catch up on sum funds.

I will have to get back to ya Yella. I now own a 2 seater Ute so I only have 1 other seat. A local friend of mine just 3 days ago said he was keen to come up with me. I will be traviling up first thing Thursday morning from Nowra, as I have to be there Thu evening. Canberra would be soughta out of my way.

No worries Pete.

Don't attach your hot weather to the tow bar, you can keep it over there.

Pete,

Was sad to hear that. Sorry but I was on duty at Wheels when you rang, then serviced the VN (including tappet cover gaskets grrrrr.....), course today & tomorrow and Club meeting tonight. I'll try give you a bell tomorrow night.

I'm also running a Tender Board on Wednesday!!!

I didn't realise they'd need officials on Day 1, which is normally just practice, so I'm now heading off Thursday night, sleeping in the back of the wagon overnight and ready for a Friday 7:00am start. That's after getting back from Sydney on Thursday for work!!!!! This week is gonna be a killer, but the weekend will make it all worthwhile.

Pat.

Only 24 hours to go, and I'll be off to heaven. Off to Sydney for work, then fly back home and jump in the car for Bathurst.

Got the MP3 player so I can tune into the commentary while I'm up there waving the flags.

Wow, what an awesome easter weekend!

I was stuck in the marque sports category, started off pretty slow in qualifying just trying to get a feel for the place, dropped 6 secs of the quali time in race one, but with 3 laps was only getting into the groove when the race finished. Then it all ended on the startline for race 2, popped an axle and didnt have a spare (it has a custom floater setup)

Pretty dissapointed, but was grateful for the few laps I had.. Going across the top of the mountain was breathtaking :spoton:
Really needed more laps to do a decent time, but it gave me a good starting point, hopefully I'll get another chance next year.

Axle aside the car performed very well, and the mountain of time I have spent on the suspension is starting to pay off. Pretty much rebuild the front and rear end prior to this event, and spent some time experimenting with spring rates and wheel alignment settings, havnt even tested the latest bits at mallala yet, so will be interesting to see how much the car has improved.

Hey Pat, did you see much action at your flag point? As a competitor I'd like to say thanks for your time (and all the other volunteers) over the weekend, without guys like you, events like this wouldnt happen!

That's a shame the axle cut the week end short. At lest it wasn't in practice and you got a few laps at race pace.
How many laps did you guys get for races? Any in car footage from those laps?
Will it be fixed for April out at Mallala? Dave and Wayne are rarring to go and I've heard Eldridge may be out again this year. It would be great to see the 4 Torries out on the track this year. I'm itching to expand my photo collection.

Hey Craig,

Its probably the only track in Aus that I could have a failure after so few laps and still walk away with a smile..!

Not too sure how many mallala events I am going to do this year, the bathurst trip put a bit of a dent in the funds, doubt I'll make the first two rounds but might try to get out for round 3 and then maybe do Island Magic again.

I really have to go through the car and remove anything else that may be a weak link, had a spare axle made by Rodtech, but ran out of cash to get it before the trip, and I need to look at getting a proper race gearbox (perhaps jerico) and a fresh clutch. Everything else on the car is pretty solid, just dont want to have any more stupid failures, esp when I head out of SA

Unfortunately I dont have any in car footage this time, the camera I was using have a vibration saftey feature that kept shutting it off when I started the car. A guy up there was taking some photos though and I should see them shortly, will post up when they arrive.

I think the fastest time was by a bloke in a falcon, which was a mid 2.28. There were about 3 guys within about 3 secs of each other. Everyone else was from the mid 30's to mid 50's

Happy happy.

I did a 2.42 on the old tyres in practice on the first day. Didn't get much better because we switched to new tyres that i never took to and it rained on & off

Good stuff.

Glad to hear you had fun,
I was checking the results on the internet and I wondered what had happened to you.
How did you end up in that class and not I.P. ?

Hey Mick,

IP was full so they offered me a run in Marque Sports (of which there were two groups), I figured it was better than nothing.

I'll have another go next year, I may not get a run as they will prob be looking to accept all the guys that didnt make it this year, if I do get in hopefully it will be in IP.... Its always nice running with the guys you know.

Hey Sam,

Was that you in car 76? I came looking for you a few times, but we went up the mountain at 7:00am and came down at about 6:00pm. The pits was very quiet at then, and being the mountain, they bought lunch to us, rather than bring us down.

I thought it was you, but yeah, you running in Mountain Marques and not IPRA threw me.

I was on the fast turn just after the cutting, flag point 5.2.

I did manage to catch up with Piquet though.

There is a separate thread on this, with some damn fine pics of your cars from another forum dude.

I had my forum shirt on Friday, not that you'd of seen it. By the end of the day, I had six layers of clothing on, plus wet weather gear. Trainees learnt a good lesson that day ---> always bring clothes for all occaisions when flag marshalling. I was very toasty, warm and dry.

Was a great weekend.

Pat.

Hi Pat,

Haha, I wish the #76 Hatch was mine! I was running in the Orange/Black Sedan that Hatchy pointed out, number 112. I was only running on Friday and Saturday as the axle went on the start line for race 2 sat evening.

I can tell you that 6 Race pace laps was just not enough... Just glad it didnt rain like friday the whole way through, would've be a lot more stacks thats for sure.

Glad to hear you had a good time, maybe you have some extra motivation to get the sedan running now and get out there for a run! Hopefully Pete Sayers and Rocket Rod will be out there next year as well.

Speaking of Peter Sayers, if your out there mate, are you interesting in running at Island Magic this year?

Hi Sam
Yep looks like a plan.
The so called quiet year I was supposed to have last year will happen this year, so PI could be a goer.

Hey Hey Congrats on making it to Bathurst Sam. I couldn't imagine the amount of adrenaline on your first lap. I was just thinking the other night that you said you were going to try and get up to the mountain come easter 08. good stuff! too bad about the axle, but thats motorsport. I haven't been on this site before xmas, so excuse my ignorance, but i take it you have fixed all your fuel issues that you were expereiencing last year?

Cheers, Aaron.
