Yeah, sorry again for that mate. I tried to move the V8 discussion elsewhere but someone carried it on here (gtr-xu1).

12.79 is a mad time for a 6 cyl mate. You should be proud of all the r & d you've put into it as its paying off for you. Good stuff. Keep it up and I am looking forward to hearing of bigger and better things from you and this car.

has anybody had experiance with holden 6 on methanol as my mate has got a 675 alky demon R.S. D.R. carb that we will be trying and it will be on a highly modified manifold and we are going to use a BG throttle bypass valve and a BG six valve pump.

Thanks Hayden

what do you need to know about a red 6 on methanol? sitting in the next room is a man who knows alot about methanol and red sixes.

What comp. ratio do you need to run for methanol?

On another note we had our lc at the strip again friday night and ran even faster with a 12.79 @ 105.38 we are now going to put this engine on methanol and try again in a month or so. :spoton:

Thanks Hayden

it's not had to get one to run 12sec, spend a little bit of money. A good head and right camshaft, and any 1000kilo lc will run a 12esc 1/4

how is having a 6 cyl in a lc/lj different? I would think that a v8 would be different.

member 44.. i was first :)

At the drag strip its different. There are so many V8 LC/LJ's. Why? Because they pull good times, easily. You aren't ringing a V8's neck trying to run a mid to high 12 like you are a 6 cyl.

I'm surprised that the second username was allowed. I'd be pissed if I was you A1.

all you people talking up v8 this and v8 that i would like to say this if we wanted a v8 like 99% of the cars at the strip we would have one but we want to be diffrent and like a challange   ,i know we are no match for a real v8. so if you could please take the argument elsewear that would be great. :gun:

Drag thats tough...any Torry six that runs 12s is a serious eye opener to the ricers..well do matey and keep going. Must piss off HSVs when you smoke em too! :spoton:

P.S...I think you should change Andrews to Drag308LC

Yes but its just too easy to drop a v8 in one and run good times" big deal"
any one can do that .. what about all the extra shit you need for a v8 .
cross member/ chassi kit .9"diff.big brakes. it all adds up. i have driven plenty of both v8 and 6 lj lcs and thay feel totaly diffrent handling wise !but we will not go there..beause in the end it all comes down to who set the car up .and for what reason!

Six in a row is the way to go! hayden . i would be thinking them webbers on alcohol would be better than a 4 barrel holley, bring your comp up to 12.1.you can also get alcohol needle kits for SU carbis a good freind run a hemi 265 with 2" SUs on alcohol for some years.

Give your self a big pat on the back hayden ! you got it flying :spoton:

Just as a side note: i saw many years ago at willowbank an all steel street driven EH station wagon 186 webbers run a 12.8 on 13" slicks.

cheers good luck

orangelj, is there anything we need to know or to look out for while running a 4 barrel carb on a holden6 as we have only run webers in the past? i know a little about meth as dads sling shot runs on it.we are running 11.1 to 1 comp

we have not had it on a dyno as yet.

I dont think that 11.1 really warrants alcohol?

If it's a drag only engine then bump it to like 14:1 and run straight alcohol and see where it takes ya!
But i think that staying where you are from the fuel is a good thing.

I'd be concerned about fuel delivery from a 4 barrel on an inline 6... Wouldnt the acceleration forces be enough to pull the fuel mixture toward teh rear cylinders thus leaning out the fronts slightly?
Just something that comes to mind when i think about the situation.

As dave said ^... No matter where yo go from here.. Youve dead set got that thing flying! You do deserve a pat on the back!

Cheers
Tiny.

sorry i havent got around to posting till thismorning.

If you intend to run methanol, as tiny said, bump up the compression, 11.1 is the bordeline you would run methanol on.

as for the four barrel, it will need to be properly tuned to run the methanol (i think somewhere back somewhere, you mentioned it was off a car that ran meth anyway) but if it wasnt off a meth car then it will need modifying to run methanol. im assuming your fuel system is all braided anyway? as rubber hose is no good, as is anything plastic really.

Tinys suggestion re: aceleration forces does have some warrant, but the effect it has is minimal, and from what my old man explained the methanol moves "slower" when its in the vapour mixture, so the effect on a 4 barrel running meth is less then that on one running petroleum.

anything else?

Cheers Chris

chris, the demon carb is a proper methanol carb, drag race carb ,with removeable sleeves coupled to a barry grant throttle fuel bypass as i havent herd many good storys from people modefying petrol 4 barrels to run on methanol , we do realise that it would go a fair bit faster if we built a strip only type motor but we wanted it to run on pump fuel and last a reasonable time. ,yes we have all braided fuel line. We have access to this complete setup so we thought why not try it and see if it will go any faster.

Thanks Hayden

I have actually seen a 202 runnig on meth in an lj with a 650 dp reemed out
to run on alcohol by jb race engines, and it ran 12.7 with automatic transmission, and 9in.
Before that they had webbers on pump gas and managed the best of 13.0, so obviously those big carbs get them old stick motors going on methanol?
