I have been looking at rewiring my LX Hatch and found the following Painless wiring kits.

These are general purpose GM Keyed column harness which work out less than $500 AUD including shipping.

10101 - 12 Circuit $329.95 USD
http://www.painlessp...archField=10101

10201 - 18 Circuit $359.95 USD
http://www.painlessp...archField=10201

These are kits made exclusively for America Autos/Rare Spares by Painless based on the 10101 and 10201.

10115 - 12 Circuit $759
https://rsp-secure.c...t_number=101-15

10215 - 18 Circuit $885
https://rsp-secure.c...t_number=102-15

Does anyone know what the difference between the Rare Spares harness and the Painless harness is?

Which harness have people used?

Andy, I spoke to Todd @ rare parts in Perth about the painless kits & they sourced me a 18 circuit harness for around $500 (I think). They reckoned it was a better harness for less dough. It has some instructions with it but i think the job will be far from painless.
Cheers, Tony.

I think the "aussie auto loom " harness might be the way to go. I spoke to the owner/ seller at ballarat swapmeet a couple of years ago and he reckons that you can plug straight into the ignition switch with his where as the painless harness has the wrong terminal for the holden ignition. I never checked this out but it would make life easier if the americam ignition is different to ours, which it probably is.
Otherwise you would need to get a universal fitment and change your ignition or the terminals would need rewiring to suit I guess.

Yep, you have to remove the Holden plugs & fit them to these harness's.

you will be surprised how easy they are to actually fit, every wire is labelled to where it goes

I expect the rare spares / american autos harness is the best but I do not think it is worth the extra $440 when compared with the 18 circuit painless from Summit.

I have ordered an 18 circuit painless harness from Summit. It will not arrive until late Aug due to other items on back order. I will post details when it arrives.

Painless 18 circuit from Summit is USD $359.95 (AUD $433.00 ) plus handling $23.95 (AUD $29.00) per order plus shipping.

The last box I had sent UPS expedited was 46cm x 46cm x 16cm and weighed 6lbs cost USD $36.75 (AUD $44).

Whats the go with the Rares one? Does Painless make that one? and if so, whats the part number?

The Rare Spares harness is made by Painless and is exclusive to Rare Spares and American Autos. American Autos are significantly cheaper.

This harness on eBay from this thread has a small fuse box.

This is the harness I bought from Summit

I expect to get into the wiring in the next couple of weeks. The fuse box on the Rares harness appears to be smaller than the harness I bought from Summit. The fuse box on the Painless harness from Summit may be a problem so I could not recommend it at this stage. One day I will get down to Rare Spares and have a look at their harness.
