Hi all,

I am currently getting ready for a brake upgrade for my LX. At present my brake setup is a LX V8 standard setup.

The upgrade includes converting the rear to a disc brake setup. What I would like to do is to change the master cylinder to one which is designed for disc/disc use and also incorporates the proportioning valve (such as those used on the Commodore).

Is it possible to just change the front half of the LX brake booster to a Commodore front half so that it will allow the fitment of the master cylinder? What other modifications would be necessary?

Thanks in advance.

Front can
Pushrod into master
Use both of these off the Commodore
Can also use XC-XE Falcon if you'd rather see a Ford removed from service to donate to a better cause.

Assuming you have a commodore looking double booster not the early fatter one like LH

As for master cylinders
WB is metric threads 12mm rear port 10mm front ports ball flares
Commodore is metric same sizes as WB but inverted flares
Falcon is imperial 3/8 unf all 3 ports ball flares

Falcon is the cheaper master cylinder to buy new

Thanks Neil. Your help is greatly appreciated.

This is the booster I have in my LX at present.

So which model of Commodore (or Commodores?) would I be able to steal the front half of the brake booster from?

Yeah I have the same booster as you, and I had a VT master cylinder fitted, a conversion plate made it fit up nice. If you want pics ill get some up for you but i think theres some in members projects section.

Cheers

You can use a v8 vk/vl d/diaphram booster with the 1in master cyclinder and cut 50mm off the shaft going to the brake pedal then put the tag back on and it all works spot on.
