I like that work a lot. Keep it up, very nice framing at the back.

Are the control arm mounts still the same?

yes the rear trailing arm mounts are the same but have been seam welded and the upper ones have been braced to the new rear chassis rails.
I was going to connect front and rear chassis together but the engineer was worried about the extra 500 grams it would have added (not sure why)

that is when i started cutting everything out that didnt need to be there.
I was playing around with the springs and shocks while waiting for my plane today
the QA1's are very nice. adjusted them to the heighest setting and with two people sitting on the boot it hardly moved at all, i mean 5mm at the most.

I think the 200lb springs may be a little too stiff

i wish i could have cut mine up more :D

i have 150lb springs in mine (same as a mates torana) so his car was apretty good guide.

going to use a panard rod?

No mate wasnt planning to use a pan hard rod. all my trailing arms are boxed and using the nolathane rubbers in the back. I dont think it will move around that much.
I was very happy with the handling last time it was on the road. It will be a lot better now the back can be lowered. The ride height with the lowest springs and 17" wheels was up with the 4wd's

Yes i think maybe 150 or 180 LB springs for the back but will wait and see how it goes once it is all back together with a tank full of juice.

What make shocks and springs are you using moot?

slowly getting there

Finished TH700 mounts from underneath, these will allow the exhaust to be higher in the body ultimately allowing the car to be lower to the ground

Tubs are fully complete and with a few hours of minor work the horrible back seat was modified to suit the tubs but for some reason I do not have a picture. It looks good but a little uncomfortable to sit in, trade offs!

Mate just read your whole thread, You've done some very nice work on this and it's going to be one tuff car once it's all done. Looking forward to the rest of the build.

i'm using avo coil overs and the springs were made for me by kings i think.
the panard rod is a good idea, the diffs never seem to sit in the centre of the cars and they do move aound a bit

Gen 3 I had borrowed an engine stand to build my motor, once the motor was complete the engine stand sort of evolved into a rotisary and I made another stand to suit it. the only problem is that it is not quite high enough to spin the car totally upside down.

Andy the exhaust will take about 6-8 weeks i suppose, am only getting extractors at this stage. Will get tha back end done once I sort out where the drop tank will go. easier to make the tubes go around the tank. Sorry I didnt call you, was powering into the car to get it to the exhaust shop.

everyone else thanks for the comments, MRLX Sometimes pictures do not do justice, other times they cover up some very average work, like my welding skills. I look at some of my welding from when first started and just want to grind it out and start again ha ha!

Moot if it wasnt for your PM's and pics to help motivate me there would be no tubs in my car, Cheers! Looking forward to some more pics of your car.

hey phil, any chance of posting or emailing me ([email protected]) some more pics of the crossmember set-up? Looks very neat and is a great idea as i plan on running twin 3in pipes so will help out a lot with clearance issues.

Cheers Les

mate the tubs didnt cost much as i did most of the work myself

tubs - $250 from McD bros
CHassis RHS - I think about $100
a bottle of gas and a few cutting discs $200
coil overs - cant remember
engineer - $250 so far

the wheels and tyres are gonna be the expensive part

Mine will be legal, I was very suprised when the approval in principal came back. my application was an additional 30+ pages on top of the standard froms.
things got a little more extreme than originally planned. originally the chassis was not going to be modified but the McDonnald tubs did not fit the standard rails. I spoke to the engineer and he was happy to fab up a new rear chassis.

cheers

Exhaust almost completed, extractors still to be coated with the black coating. The extra work modifying the crossmember has worked out very well with the lowest part now being the mufflers. Ride height looks great (will get a pic soon) with still enough room to lower another 20mm
New Aluminium fuel tank to be fabricated next!

Coming along beautifully Phil, love what you did with the cross member, makes such a difference. Looks like your doing it properly, make and fit-up everything first, then pull apart, paint and then reassemble. In hindsight it's easy to see it's the only way to do it.
