Just a smallish update for those interested. I've done about 1,500 klms and the car is running pretty good. I still have some slight idle issues and it's been put down to the throttle position sensor.

I've installed a turbo smart manual boost controller. The set and forget type. It's running about 9 psi. It pulls really well when the temperature is low, but when it's warm it doesn't like.

I need to sort out air flow issue with the inter cooler..

We are going for a cruise to Nelson bay this Friday, so you may just see me cruising. I'm looking forward to the drive to see how it goes long distance...

I'm looking forward to catching up with some members in the near future.

Thanks for the heads up..I may not even be able to drive the Torana after all. I've taken an axle out to suss out an oil leak. The car was feeling funny around corners, so I decided to check it out.

It seems that the bearing on the axle is under too much pressure and the bearing is grinder against the bearing shell in the bearing housing in the diff.

I don't know why. It's had new bearing housings fitted, new bearings and seals.

Bugger....I hope I can sort this out before hand, if not then I'm heading up in the Subaru...

It's up and running again thanks to Joe from pro fab. He even took time out to come around and have a look at the issue when I was refitting the stubborn axle.

I will get a new pair of axles made up in the near future, so it's a temporary fix for the moment. The axles are on the to do list.

Anyone else have a to do list? or should I say when your game enough to spend more money list?

Really nice project buddy, I just read all 12 pages of it!

I've got a to do list on my pin board for my LJ. I figure if I can do one thing a week I'm doing ok. It's a little bit different because mine is on the road already. Every time I drive it I find something else to do to it!

Have fun driving it, looks like it would be a fun little rig to drive. Love the clean undercarriage by the way.

It's really dirty now. I don't think I can be bothered to clean it. I mean who looks under there anyway?

The drive to nelson bay/Newcastle was a great run for the car. I worked out that I'm using 10.2 litres per 100 klm. That's mostly highway, a few hits and some city cruising.

I think once i get the tune right and the air con working it will be better. I was very hot and I had both windows down most of the way.

I think under 10/100 klms is possible with some adjustments in the near future when traveling highways.

I'm very happy with the results so far and the car is doing what I've built it for. Very happy. The more I drive it, the more people I met and I get many offers for go fast parts. So I should have some more grunt in the near future.

Hey Paul! I reckon we are well over due some new pics of the car!!! All this cruising you are doing, you must have got some good shots!

That is really good fuel economy! I'd be happy with that! I reckon my Torry would be lucky to do 17-18L/100kms! LOL

Here's a picture form the nelson bay trip. We stop at this harbour thingy so I took some pictures. That's me by the way next to the beast.

I turned this....

Into this. It's an air scoop for the side mount intercooler. I'm about to take it for a run and to see if there's any difference..

That's me in the monkey magic costume that I made for a fancy dress party. I made it all by myself. I bought the top, pants and kids pants from an op shop. I even got on the sewing machine and made the belt...

I love monkey magic...

The tow bar kinda blends in and I need to tow my bike trailer to and from places. I'm really love cruising in this car. It's so good to drive. It feels like it's new apart from some weird noises now and then.

I went to five dock the other night to see this guy about a car for a mate. This guy basically builds modified circuit cars and plays with skylines. I asked him to take my car for a spin to listen to the gearbox noise.

He said that the gearbox is fine, just inter cooler pipes rubbing on boost. He was absolutely rapped the way the car drove, handle and just the feel of the car.

That's a huge praise for someone that is around high performance cars all day, drives a circuit car and has had no involvement in my car what so ever.

I was stoked.

I just saw you driving into Caesar's this morning. Your hatch cuts a very fine figure on the road, and definitely stands out from the humdrum cars out there. Congratulations on a thorough build and thanks for the write up.

id definately recommend getting nistune for it. it cost me about $440 for the hardware fitted and the software, and now i can do what ever tuning i want when i want, real time too.
good thing is you keep all your standard nissan tuning and functions until you mess with them. unlike any other aftermarket where you start from scratch.

You should of said hello. I haven't met a fellow forum member yet, which has surprised me. I have only met youngy and that's about it.

Brett32i

I like so more info of the nistune for future reference. I have so many plans for the car, but finances are really bad at the moment. I'm having trouble finding full time work as my casual work has gone real quite.

I've even applied for work in the local mines, but it's a catch 22 situation. You need your under ground ticket, which you need money for (so I need work for the ticket) and you need at least 6 months experience...

I just don't get how someone like me with all my skills has trouble getting work. Never been an issue in the past.

I guess it's a sign of the times....

Whats your qualifications??

nistune.com, it was about $440 hardware installed and software. its a bargain. even if you had management, you could seel it and still be infront.
cant remember if i mentioned last post, but with nistune you start with all the nissan maps and go from there. everything else (motec haltec etc) you start from scratch and loose all oem features.

Sorry Matt, I forgot about meeting you in Melbourne. I was talking about more local members.

Brett 32i

I'm actually a qualified mechanic, but I haven't been in the trade since 1994. The pay is really bad for a mechanic unless you work for yourself.

I've been working as a casual fitter doing shutdown work in the Illawarra. I've also be doing house demolition work.

I'm trying to get into the mines so i can have a good steady income. Very hard to get in even with contacts in the field.

Sorry mate. I was already committed to turning down Towradgi Road. The next day I saw you on Towradgi Road but I was turning onto the distributor! Next time I'll say hello for sure. I'm not in my torana, just a VT wagon daily driver :-(
