I gave the engine bay a degrease and bath today, so I thought I'd post up a picture...

I've been driving the car everywhere and apart from some strange noises it's great to drive.

It's been a long time since I've updated so I thought I'd let you guys know what's been happening. I've been driving heaps lately and this conversion has been everything I hoped for. It's a very placid street car when driven dosile and it can become very agro under the right foot.

I've already done the first 5,000 klms service, changed the diff seal and got the exhaust moved over to prevent from hitting. I still haven't got the panels adjusted.

I did get the car full insured for $13,000. I was happy with that as I still need to poor more money into the car to get the interior up to speed. I'm looking forward to cruising along with you guys one day or seeing you out and about.

Maybe you could take it to the drags Paul, see what time you can do with a standard rb25 compared to holden 6s etc ?

Be a bit of fun

Is that a challenge?

I'm still a bit concerned about the gearbox as it had no oil in it (I assumed it did) when I first got running and didn't realize until it sounded like an old M20 box during idle. I've had the oil changed in the gearbox and the added some addictive and it's much better, but I think the damage is done.

I have some other rattles that sound like a pinging noise but it may be just the inter cooler pipes touching. It's very hard for me to so any work on the car myself due to ongoing back issues. A few hours working on the car normally floors me for about a day afterwards and it looks like it aint going to get much better.

I can confirm that I have blown way a WRX and evo from the lights. Also any wet weather driving can be very hairy under any boost, but fun all the same.

I'll see what the doc/physio says about me running around phillip island on my bike (in case I fall off) and I'll go from there.

Great job,
I was just wondering as I am looking to do a RB25 conversion into a LX, what is the under bonnet clearance between the engine and Bonnet, im thinking of putting a top mount intercooler with a low street scoop cos i dont want the car to look like its turbo, I want to keep the car looking as stock as possible from the outside.

Sorry to hijack but i thought i might be able to answer that question, i've had major bonnet clearance issues with my RB26/30 but it could be that the RB30 block is slightly talled?

I will be modifying some CRS engine mounts as i am still awaiting the other bloke on here that has a 26/30 to take proper measurements of his mounts.

Also you should mount the cooler behind the grille but just paint it black and keep the radiator support panel black then it will be out of sight.

they are reasonably small and mount in the same way as the airbox configuration (behind headlight)

A frontmount painted black would look more factory than having a scoop...

Looking great Paul, exactly how a UC should be done IMO.

I thought I would drag this thread up again as I spend most of the day talking to people about the conversion and I have pointed them to this forum.

The fact that I entered the Torana fest was the kick in the bum to get the following up speed.

-Fix cross thread issue with hatch bolts and adjust hatch
-Drill, pop rivet and fit remaining chrome trim
-Cut the number plate holding for the smaller plates at rear
-Polish the car, lol I haven't since it was painted (4 years ago???)
-Fix some wiper washer issues...Stupid thing still needs attention..

I can tell you that this car is an absolute blast to drive on the freeway...It just wants to cruise at 110 klm all day...

Top stuff mate, it sounds like you are almost to the regular driving and enjoyment phase.
Be good to see a few vids when you are out on the road.

Nothing like a car show to prod the enthusiasm! Most people finish those little things before they go, not after! HAHA :tease:

Well I got motivated today and pulled out the gearbox and I have it half stripped. Looks okay so far, but I think it's the bearings in the sandwhich part of the box that are gone.

I'll get some pictures up soon, cause unless you see the size of the gears in the gearbox you wouldn't beleive at how big they are.

Bloody huge I tell.

It wasn't that bad to take out the gearbox either. I think it took me about 2 hours from start to gearbox on bench.

Here's some pictures of my efforts since Sunday..

I've found the bearing that holds the cluster shaft in the bell housing to have issues, but luckily I've got to it in time and it hasn't spun in the bell housing or mark the cluster shaft.

It feels like the bearings in the in middle are also stuffed, so I will cart this to my local gear box guy so he can fix it.

I've done as much as I could without tooling up for a one off job. I also cleaned all the parts and labeled sandwich bags that contain all the parts.

Now the waiting game will be begin...
