I haven't done too much to the car lately. I have taken on some other pressing projects and I had my mates CBR250RR stolen from my work while it was in my care.

So basically if this bike doesn't turn up very soon, I will have to give him the money for it and that means less money for this project. Sadly, that would mean that the Torana will not be on the road by December, but next year some time..

To make matters even worse my sparkie hasn't been around or contacted me to finish the job and strong winds shook the shed and a heavy motor cycle sub frame fell from the roof and hit the car. Luckily it only managed to hit the rear beaver panel near the tail lights.

Not having a good run, but I'm fighting all the way. I will finish this car.

Should I post on this forum the details of the bike? Which section would be the best.

Sorry to hear about the obstacles mate... Chuck a thread up in General Discussion about the bike, it'll get the most coverage there.

Good luck with it all, and keep your chin up. It'll all be worth it in the end...

What is your car up to now then? Have you done much more since I last saw it? I'm lat out with building 4 special electric cars for adults to drive at a camp and I have 3 cars to go, then I'll get back into th Torana while I'll build 2 bikes at the same time, make that 3 bikes...

I really looking forward to all this work is done.

Smallish update..

Had the rear calipers reco'd, discs machined, new pads and hoses (to be fitted). Reco'd LSD 9" 3.55 ratio fitted and new oil. Now to find the tail shaft and to see if it fits. I also have had some new hand brake cables made for it. That means the handbrake should work again. I had this car roll from me few times..lol.

I think I have the lower control arms in wrong as they are too close to the mounting bracket on the diff. Can anyone tell from the pics? I can't remember if the holes in the control arms are supposed to be towards the car of the diff.

Anyway some pictures..

The swaybar holes and the large punched hole in the lower trailing arms should be closest to the diff, it looks correct in your picture.

Pass side. Lower front floor mount bracket.

Posted Image

Drivers side as above.

Posted Image

Pretty sure this was the driver side rear diff mount.

See the issue I'm having? Maybe there is a left and right lower control arm? I can't bolt the bracket that holds the handbrake cable in place.

Looks like they need to be swapped left to right. The lip for the bush should be facing the outside of the car.

I know they had to replace one of the lower control as it was bent twisted. Is there a pass and drivers lower control arm?

I'll go and change them around. Wish me luck...

I just checked my drivers side arm. They are both the same so the lips on both arms should be pointing to the passenger side.

I just checked and it is fitted as you say, both lips to the passenger side. Having a better look and it appears that maybe the control arm bracket on the floor is slightly bent. Hard to see with only the car jacked up.

It will be much easier to see up on a hoist. Now it appears that the handbrake cables are too short...

Great news!

My mates bike has been found with very little damage and the sparky is coming around very soon to finish the wiring in the car.

I can't believe that this car is coming together...

He gave me a trade in for my old single spinner centre and also gave me a discount for the ratio he took out from the LSD centre that I bought from him.

So the LSD center was $500
New gears $300
New spacer $55
Labour $110
Trade in old diff $100
Trade in old ratio gears $150

Is was $720 in the end.

Thanks guys for all your positive feed back. When the car is ready I'll be shooting down to melbourne for Christmas and a track day (using track bike, not car) at phillip island.

I've tracked down my sparkie and he comes tomorrow. I've also got quotes on a full exhaust and the tail shaft to be made.

May need to sell another bike..

Smallish Update on the project.

The plan is to have it done/engineered and registered by December. A huge call, but I will leave some parts as they are too save time and money. Like seats and stuff like that. Stuff that can be changed down the track in a few hours.

Bad news..

Like I said we found my mates bike. Once I got it started it had a horrible idle and after some testing it was decided to take of the head. Number 3 piston has a hole in it.

So I need to rebuild this engine for him. Still better than a whole bike.

I have also managed to damage my back at work pretty bad. Would you believe form walking up stairs all day. By the end I had trouble putting pressure on my leg and then I couldn't walk.

I am know walking around again, but I can only get around on my feet for so long. I may need an operation.

Good news

I'm determined to get this car on the road and I will use my free time devoted to getting the car done. I'm receiving workers comp, but that is less than half of my normal pay with some over time.

So my bikes will have to be built/sold during the process. I did get the handbrake cables re-made and I will put them in very soon.

I plan a road trip down to Melbourne in December to celebrate it;s return to the tarmac. I will also met up with many friends from the cbr forum and Christmas with family.

I may even met up with some torana freaks from here. As you can imagine my car sticks out like dogs balls in this colour on the road, so it won't be hard to spot me.

I'll start posting pictures again real soon. I will also include a better video as I have just bought a great digital video camera.

So my lovely wife has offered me to lend me some coin from the house reno founds to get the car on the road while I'm off work.

Here's a quick list of things that need to be done.

Front brakes/lines/hoses
Front discs/wheel bearings
Front brake line
fit master cylinder/booster/bleed
Fit heater box/hoses
Flush cooling system/new coolant
Fit fan shroud
Exhaust system
Inter cooler pipes to be made
Car wiring (Engine almost complete)
Weld brackets for centre console
have tail shaft made and fit
Refit all interior
fit front and rear sway bars
Fit rear springs and check height
Fit clutch master cylinder and bleed.
Fit wiper mechanism/motor and arms. Also new blades.
Fit VYSS 17" rims
Have air con pipes made and get running
Wheel alignment
Engineer report
Blue slip
Green slip
Rego/get custom plates from hold at RTA.

It will get longer as you list can do, but it's not that much more work when you write it down and then break it down to bit size pieces.

It's like the old saying.

How do you eat an elephant?

One bite at a time.

Why? It hasn't changed much. I'll get a tail shaft sorted next week and then sort out the clucth line/bleed.

That means I can drive it out of the garage under it's on power....It's been over 2 years since I was able to do that.

I'll drive it out. Give it a tub and then I'll post pics...
