Well I would just like to point out that it is 3 years today since I purchased my pride and joy.
Seems like not too long ago I was wandering around the all holden day in 2007, searching for ideas for my torana shell which was planning on getting a V6 conversion, and we spotted this one tucked next to a couple of LJ's and it had a for sale sign on it for $4500. It wasn't much to look at, very rough and not finished. But the conversion was done and it worked so it was hard to turn away.
A bit of umming and ahhing and we rang up the guy selling it and had a good look for rust and tried to work out whether it would be worth spending the money on this or starting with the shell as it needed a fairly decent overhaul, as well as engineering etc.
After some negotiations, $3200 was handed over, and we drove the car home.

It needed a huge amount of work, but it ran, had paint and wheels and we soon found out was rust free, and I was happy.

Since it was bought 3 years ago, its undergone a huge change:
- Interior has changed from a couple of wrx bucket seats, no carpet/insulation, standard back seat with seat cover, non working gauges, no console etc to VS S-pack front and rear seats, Insulation and black carpet, homemade console wrapped in grey and blue vinyl, parcel shelf wrapped in blue vinyl, door trims custom made, gauges all wired, black hoodlining and B panels. Such a huge change and hopefully, soon to be redone.

- After siezing a motor, out it came and the engine bay received a respray as well as the new block recieved a coat of red paint, and a whole lot of shiny bits

- The entire diff housing has come out and been replaced with a freshly painted black housing as a blown centre was too stubborn to let me remove the axles.

- The entire car has had a complete respray, and is a thousand times nicer in any light and much more respectable.

- And lets not forget the cruising buddy I built for it back in 2008 known as the Torailer.

I dont think this is a bad effort at all, as it has always been my daily driver and always been street registered. As well as being consistent on the drag strip, it has rarely let me down on the road, except when I broke a flexplate and 2 diffs and was on the side of the road less than a km from my house lol (it is currently on its 6th diff)

It has been a fun journey with this car and there are V8 plans for it, but the V6 is doing me fine for now.

Depending on the weather this weekend I will give it a nice wash and polish and get some good photos of it to really show off what I get to drive everyday :)

Went out to the drags tonight, and managed to set a new PB. Its not much difference, but every little bit counts!

60ft - 2.111
330 - 6.161
1/8 - 9.598
MPH - 71.22
KMH - 114.62
1000 - 12.589
1/4 - 15.123
MPH - 88.75
KMH - 142.83

Considering its a stock motor and box, its going well. Would love to see a 14 second pass but I dont know how much this has to give. Will be looking at an LSD BW diff to help it get off the line a bit better.

Will chuck up some pics when I get them.

Cheers,
Mitch

if i were u id maybe consider a different centre for the bw. I got an LSD in mine and definetly wont be going down that road again, well standard LSD anyway, i find they wear out very fast. Have u looked into kaaz or lokka? Im pretty interested in the lokka, cheap too

congrats on the pb too :)

Thanks for the comments guys. I have a bumper in the garage that I wasnt planning on using as its a bit damaged on one end. Might chuck it on cause im not having any luck finding a decent one. Might even go to a bumper repair/chroming place and see what it would cost to get this one perfect.

The torana is looking great Mitch but you've gotta put a front bumper on it sooner or later
(and then it will look even better)

Will definately be getting a front bumper. Will start looking a bit harder for one in the new year. Might throw the one thats in the garage on tomorrow just to shut some people up/ give me some motivation to get a good one.

Looks much better, what's wrong with it? Is it a bit crooked somewhere? Can't really tell in the photo

Is the top of your left headlight surround a bit damaged? Looks very... flat

Cheers for the comments guys.

Heath - The bar bends down on the drivers side of the car. From a distance it looks fine and is not that noticeable, but I know its there so I'm not happy with it lol. As for the headlight surround, I forgot all about that. It was slightly damaged when I had the prang over a year ago but as its so low at the front you can't really see it when standing up. Its only when you get down level like in the photo that you can see anything.

torana1979 - If you wanna shoot me a PM with any questions you may have about the conversion I'm more than happy to try and help you out, rather then fill up my thread :spoton:

MCH11N - Thanks mate, I'm pretty happy with the overall look of the car. It keeps a lot of people guessing whats under the bonnet and even though its not fast, they don't need to know that! :P

Bit of an update today - bought a set of 1.9:1 roller rockers of Youngy and installed them tonight, though didn't make it very far as I blew the diff up at the top of my street...again.

But here is a few pictures and the engine runs very smooth with this upgrade. Can't wait to see the difference at the drags.

So will be throwing my spare centre into the car tomorrow, and searching for something better then the bango for a reasonable price.

Cheers
