Seems like not too long ago I was wandering around the all holden day in 2007, searching for ideas for my torana shell which was planning on getting a V6 conversion, and we spotted this one tucked next to a couple of LJ's and it had a for sale sign on it for $4500. It wasn't much to look at, very rough and not finished. But the conversion was done and it worked so it was hard to turn away.
A bit of umming and ahhing and we rang up the guy selling it and had a good look for rust and tried to work out whether it would be worth spending the money on this or starting with the shell as it needed a fairly decent overhaul, as well as engineering etc.
After some negotiations, $3200 was handed over, and we drove the car home.
It needed a huge amount of work, but it ran, had paint and wheels and we soon found out was rust free, and I was happy.
Since it was bought 3 years ago, its undergone a huge change:
- Interior has changed from a couple of wrx bucket seats, no carpet/insulation, standard back seat with seat cover, non working gauges, no console etc to VS S-pack front and rear seats, Insulation and black carpet, homemade console wrapped in grey and blue vinyl, parcel shelf wrapped in blue vinyl, door trims custom made, gauges all wired, black hoodlining and B panels. Such a huge change and hopefully, soon to be redone.
- After siezing a motor, out it came and the engine bay received a respray as well as the new block recieved a coat of red paint, and a whole lot of shiny bits
- The entire diff housing has come out and been replaced with a freshly painted black housing as a blown centre was too stubborn to let me remove the axles.
- The entire car has had a complete respray, and is a thousand times nicer in any light and much more respectable.
- And lets not forget the cruising buddy I built for it back in 2008 known as the Torailer.
I dont think this is a bad effort at all, as it has always been my daily driver and always been street registered. As well as being consistent on the drag strip, it has rarely let me down on the road, except when I broke a flexplate and 2 diffs and was on the side of the road less than a km from my house lol (it is currently on its 6th diff)
It has been a fun journey with this car and there are V8 plans for it, but the V6 is doing me fine for now.
Depending on the weather this weekend I will give it a nice wash and polish and get some good photos of it to really show off what I get to drive everyday
