Guys and Gals, Im having trouble getting the right wheel nuts for self locating sprintmasters.....

I have seen a couple of sets available on ebay, but have asked the sellers if they would suit, and they are unsure... so Im reluctant to spend the cash only to find they dont fit.. has anyone bought some repros that are definately right ?? if so who from.. or can someone give me the exact dimensions etc. so i can have some made... thanks
Adam. :D

Hi Adam,
The answer is none of the obove.
The ones you want have a more rounded dome top, I bought a set for $110.
I think it was from him??
They are identical to my original ones, haven't used them yet, hope the chrome stays on they are for the big sprinties.
I will try and get some pics.
Cheers.

I just chased around today and sourced a set for my CSA Sprintmasters Globes, whatever any one wishes to call them. There are two types of nuts for these wheels. One style have a 60 degree face which locates the rim and the other have a shank that actually inserts through the hole and also has a stainless steel washer thats sits against the face of the rim.The latter I think are for genuine Globes. GTR/XU1 ones had a few grooves machined around them also.I know where to get them but very expensive. Correct me if I am wrong any one please. The fine details on these cars are a pain in the A**. :D

This is the details on the set I and a couple of mates bought off ebay. Could very well be the brett cnc guy, I don't know.

Anyway he definately has the right ones: I've just used mine in putting the original sprinties on the car. The chrome didn't bugger up putting them on, but i was real careful as I had heard the chrome wasn't real flash and if it doesn't peel off the nuts will rust anyway?? They look fine at the moment tho' and you can always get them re-chromed I suppose. Cost around $100-120 from memory.

Cheers,

jpxu1 is right those nuts were copied from an original off an unmolested 72 Bathurst XU1 & they are very close to the originals, I think the originals may have had the ends linished slightly before chroming.

Thanks very much... also thank you to CK for providing the following pics and info:

I hope you can see enough detail in the pics as the repros are still in a sealed plastic bag and I don't want to open them.

The nuts are pretty much the same apart for the following differences:

1 the steel hex rod used to make the repros is better quality than the originals due to the fact that they make better steel these days. It's smoother with less pitting.

2 the flat on the end of the nut looks wider on the repros but it's not it's the radius of the curve that makes it look that way, see the pics to see what I mean. I think the difference is due to the originals being slightly linished prior to chroming and the repros were not. The easy fix would be have the repros linished.

which seems to agree with yours jpxu1...

I also found this drawing some time ago, think it may have been off an ebay ad, though I could be wrong... either way, the pics seem to confirm that this drawing is the correct dimensions... though it also shows a washer to be used for each one ?

Now all I have to do is find someone to make em for me !!

Thanks again for the help.
Adam

The original sprintmaster mags have a non-removeable steel washer pressed into them.

The repro wheel nuts come with washers but they are not needed unless your mags have suffered a casualty over the years.

CK would have got his repros from the same place as me - same sealed bag and if he looks there should be washers in there as well.

Cheers,

jpxu1 :D

Yeah they're from the same place, the only place that makes them. They're a good repro and I think you would have trouble picking them from the originals if they were slightly linished before chroming. Even as they are very few people could pick the difference without an original nut to compare and how many original nuts do you see these days?
