g'day, im reasonably new to these forums and i thought its about time i put some pics up here n stuff.

i got my 6cyl LX SLR a couple of months ago with the intentions of doing a 6 month project for the fun of it, and possibly make a few $$ if im lucky(i cant save for the life of me, so i came up with the idea of sinking my money into this for a while then withdrawing it).

its currently being slowly stripped back to bare metal to be Painted chamois (orig colour) in Arcrylic, im aiming for a show quality finnish, all rust (the very little it has) repairs will be done in metal.

stage 1: strip to bare metal
stage 2: fix all rust, panelbeat & prime
stage 3: seats retrimmed & carpet
stage 4: Paint & assembly

currently still stage 1 of 4.

I have a Rear Right door that would come up nicely. And a Front Passenger door with rust down the bottom but a skin that would come up nicely.

Looks like a good project that I will be following :)
Whereabouts are ya from?

i live in in carlton, but the car lives at a mates place in Preston as i dont have anywhere to keep it.
so it can be a hastle traveling back and forth to put in a few hrs work, but still fun.

i would consider any doors, inc odd ones, better than mine as long as they fit into my budget. i probly couldnt afford to buy a set of good doors all at once.

Well you're welcome to come around and inspect what I have. None of my panels are expensive :P

So anyway, some more info on the vehicle? Aussie Four Speed & 202? Plans?

L20 (202)
M20 (i like the idea of an alloy box and a 6.. nice n light)
GV4 (3.08??)

im planning on doing all of it myself as im currently unemployed, just doing a few casual jobs when i get them,
and have a bit to much spare time at the moment. i was hoping i can get it done by jan/feb, or at least everything except the interior.

slowly stipping it all back to nice shiney metal then etch priming. next step will be cutting the rust out
and welding in the repair sections in the rear quaters and tacking up a couple of pinholes round the window sills.

after being quoted 1400+ for seat trims unfitted, im also gunna have a go at trimming the seats myself.
if anyone has any tips/info on D.I.Y trimming anything would be helpfull, especialy where to find materials for a reasonable price.

unfortunatly even when i do complete it, i wont be able to drive it as i dont have a car licence (never even had my L's..
3 month waiting list atm sorta puts me off that little bit extra) so it will be sold to finance my next project
and get a postie bike or 250cc so i can get around without relying on public transport..

im just doing it for the fun of it , as much as i want to keep it when its all finnshed, i cant because im sorta broke
(coz i wasted my small budget buying tools of ebay). so it will be for sale  once completed

Look for a job so when this is finished, you can keep it and drive it. SL/Rs are getting rare, and you will regret selling it.

Yes that's 3:08, but it's GU4, not GV4.

yeh i reckon its going to be a pretty easy project, but i probly paid a bit too much.
im 24, this is my 3rd LX torana :D and it probly wont be my last.

the other torry's i had was a LX hatchback complete minus motor (paid $20 for it... gave up on it, sold the hatch door for $40 and sold the car to a mate for 10! -this was in 1998, not recently) the other one i had was just a 4 door totaly rusted to the rails bushpig with every panel a different coulor powered by a worked 208 and 3spd floor shift.... i wish i didnt sell that one.
but this ones different as i bought it with the intentions of doing it up for the fun of it and to make a dollar if i can. im not worried if i loose 50$ or make $500, it will be sold to fund my next project... (unless i get my licence before then witch is impossible)

also, could anyone help with where to find grey golfball insert vinyl at a reasonable price?

I've finaly got round to cutting the quaters out.... looks like theres a little more rust than i thought.
im thinking the next step is probly cut a section of the beaver panel out and the end section
of the chassis rail as its totaly gone.
im not to sure how to go about it though, i havent cut this much out of a car before.

does anyone know anyone that makes/could make the ends of the chassis rail
(that curves up behind the beaver panel)?

i've made a repair section for the inner repair arch, i cut up a perfectly good ford panel to make it,
and i've got plenty of stuffed torry panels i could of used :D

im pretty average with a mig, im only good at arc and oxy welding. im gunna be using some cheap nasty arc inverter welder
i got off ebay. its 'tig-able' ir something... it basicly says something about spottying/tacking.
im assuming it means arc welding with a tig type rod.
if anyoneas got any suggestions on what type of rods i could/should use please let me know.

will definitly not be using a normal/standard arc rod tho...

well, i ended up getting a decent aussie made mig, i just havent got any pics of my progress so i havent posted for ages.

i have found more rust than i expected in the rear and on the front bit of the sill where the bottom of the front guard sits,
in a way its made the job easier and at least i know what the inside of the sills are like.
also half way through doing the rhs rear chassis rail and quater repairs.

will hopefully get some pics later this week.

M20 (i like the idea of an alloy box)

Not sure what you mean here?

You want a alloy box? Supra etc,

Or you think the silver painted box in the car is alloy?

That one in the pic is actually a cast iron Aussie 4 speed, not so light.

Its a shame that you have to get rid of the car so quickly SLR 6, and I didn't even know that they came in 6 cylinders.

SLR_6,

Depending on what state you are in, I could possibly give you some advice on dealing with real estate agents.
