First hiccup was the LH tyre just touched the sway bar. My 15 x 10 Hotwires with the same tyres clear nicely.
A quick spacer had the car on it's way.
No drama and plenty of positive comments on the car from Joe Public, The Plod, other competitors and the officials.
The car developed a drivelline vibration we found hard to pin down. A quick change of the rear uni with some homemade shims and we were away.
Thursday had us at Prologue in the wet. The car provged to be very easy to throttle steer and was easily able to hold long powerslides through some of the bends. A carby flat spot appeared and we adjusted on the homeward trip.
Friday it pissed down and we were very lucky not to lose the car in a number of high speed aquaplanes. Car proved to be fine through the chicanes after all, but the vibration was back. We lost most of our time between aquaplaning and gently finding confidence at increasing pace. Ended the day 11th out of 19.
Saturday saw us in patchy rain in the morning. We were increasing our pace in each special stage but could not match the porsches. A little RX7 and a Datto 240Z were alos just in front. We maintained 4th to 7th over the day and by evening had worked our way up to sixth. Best part of the day was catching and passing a Lancia Delta Integrale on my favourite stage, Western Range.
Navigator Shit himself as we passed and the driver said it was worth the entry fee just to hear us blow past at pace. Dave threw himself into the maintainance role with vigour !. Vibration still there and carby now with a big miss on launching. Steering developed a 'gap' that we put down to the noltec coupling wearing prematurely.
Sunday was more of Saturday but with us now up to pace. Easily matching all but the winning Porsche and swapping times 2nd fastest to 5th fastest over the day. The exhaust bolts fell out of the drivers side Extractor / collector flange on the second stage of the day and we had to run through 2 more stages before getting back to Dynamo Dave. No back pressure also meant no carby. The steering was getting worse and the fault was now found to be the replacement cotter pins. Rare Spares version look to be aluminium!! That was the end of the fightback and we settled for bringing the car home.
Full credit to the winning '75 911 RS replica. They did a great job.
I feel if we had 3 months of testing we would have given him a run !
We were sixth out of 19 and the first muscle car home. Beat an XU1, 2 GTHO's, GT350 'Stang, Mike Moylan's Group C Falcon Coupe, a very switched on VH Group 111 and Joe Caudo's A9X.
Have to say i was a little deflated with sixth, untill studying the times and stages.
Considering our lack of testing , the vibration and carby problems, i'm happy.
Heath, exhaust is Pacemaker Competition Extractors into 3 inch colectors into a single 3 inch muffler.
More power can be found with time in changing this.
Thanks again to all for their best wishes.
We have but begun !

I wouldnt be to hard on yourself. I was looking over the results each day and since the car is so new you have done pretty damn good to get up into the top of the ladder.Have to say i was a little deflated with sixth, untill studying the times and stages.
I would have liked to come and watch some of the racing but a sick kid and the rain kept us home.

Damn, I would have been happy just to finish.
Aas for the cotter pins, - hmmm. If you make a few, make lots. I'm sure we all need them.
Are you doing Classic Adelaide?

Are you going to bring it over the ditch to the NZ Targa?

Not with the car though.
I think the expense would rule it out.
