i have to make a sump for my lh torana with a rb30et motor in it.
i am chasing help and thoughts, (pictures would be good too) of baffle design
to eliminate oil starvation. i will be getting a proper one made up later on down the track but for now i need to make one myself to save cash.
the motor going in isn't making much power (est 170rwkw max) for the moment.
thoughts and help would be aprecitated
cheers

trapdoors are nothing more than hinges without holes in them that open in toward the pickup.
i use an external pickup so i can achieve the ultimate baffling system.
heres a few external pics of the setup i am building for my daily

What pricing would you charge to make one of those if i got measurments? also is it possible to make a new pick up to bolt in to the original position?
What is the benefit of using that wire mesh?
cheers mate

under accelleration all the oil will just flow to the back of the pan cause you physically cannot have a baffle where the pickup pipe is.
the expanded mesh is like a one way valve for oil being thrown off the crank,it allows oil to enter the pan but stops it being pushed back out due to the angle of the mesh.
i charge $650 for these sumps but i have about a 6 week waiting list for any job atm and it seems to only be getting busier.
i am putting on a young fella though to help me get hrough the jobs faster

cause the original pan is steel, and you cant weld steel to aluminium.Just wondering why you didn't use aluminium jap-xu1?

Then i took a gringer with a 1mm disc & cut the sump from the flange.
Turn it around, gently heat the sump in 2 corners to get it to mate up, & tacked it all together.
Remove the windage tray & reverse it. Cut the oil pickup at the mount & reverse that too.
I think it fouled at the front of the pan to x-member by about 10mm. But that was with fabricated engine mounts. More metal massaging.
It took a little bit of time, but it cost me nothing.
It helps to have a dummy block to check clearences.

Mine hasnt got the mesh but it does have what I think you call a windage tray and a crank scraper.
The sump I speak of is for my RB30 not VH41.
Jap does very good work I can stick my neck out and say that for sure as he welded up my tank and made my turbo collectors, and as you can see the quality of his work in the pics he provided.
