No offence taken - the last LJ I owned was almost 30 years ago - I appreciate you guys offering your knowledge and advice so I can (a) frind out what was the story with the special order business on my car and (B) get it back the way it is supposed to be.
That is a sweet looking engine bay in the photo!!! Mine has the original Xu1 rocker cover and have lined up the Strombergs etc but the blue bay is very neat!

Man, great photos - good source of reference for my car - are these two restored or originals well kept? If tehy have been restored it must have taken a bomb load of time and money - any ideas how much? to give me a guide on mine.
The white one doesn't appear to have a VIN tag on the front corner - is that just teh angle or is it removed for safety?
Cheers,
john

ok , just fixed the rocker cover sticker jamie

added the vin tags , first pic was taken shortly after an engine bay freshen up which was close to 5 years ago . i removed for painting back then..

john , didnt cost a bomb as was my first attempt at painting out of a gun , i think by memory around a 100 skins for paint and thinners .preparation (sanding) was the time killer , it took me about 2 weeks after work and on weekends , freshened the motor and box and painted front end while out of car .

Hi 830hp

Bad colour rendition - it's actually Brooklands Blue and it's a 10/72 build.

Oh yes !

The battery dilema. I know all about it

Smiley has the same battery in his car and I tried in vain to try to track one down but apparently they no longer make them

tangey and torry nut , if your desperate for a red lid battery try painting yours in a quality paint !!!

the battery i have is starting to loose its charge quicker than a few years ago , have heard they can cut open and replace plates , not sure who does this ..

Just re-reading old posts on the ID plates - pardon the dumb question but does body No. 26A relate to the build sequence ? I alwasy figured it to describe a body style, not an actual production number.
Any ideas?
Also still trying to find out just how to track the paint code andf possibly find out the story behinbd the special build on this car. Any help would be much appreciated.

On the odd BODY plate of the Maroon XU-1, Bob Jane had a HQ Premier wagon ordered with factory 350 (one of 4 made that way). It was ordered in Hugger Orange to match his Camaro. Maybe the XU-1 was the same?

Was it definitely an XU-1?
