Hi All

Just curious and i am sure others are in the same predicament as me.

I have a few unregoed cars in my shed that are increasing in value and was wondering is there any companies that will insure an unregistered car?

my better half was talking to a few guys at her work and she told them i had a few old cars and how much we bought them for. Needless to say they told how much they are worth now and she's pestering me to insure them.
Any info or help would be great.

cheers julian

PS:The best option would be to get them regoed and drive them. :D

Enquire about third party fire and theft insurance. Alternatively check with your house insurer, you may be able to get the cars covered for an agreed value under that insurance policy.

I believe that Vigil do a policy for cars that are being restored, and would guess that Shannons and the like would also have similar policies.

shannons do a "laid up" cover, so the car is covered as long as its not under its own power, so also covers transporting it around for repairs etc. and it is very cheap in comparison to a registered car...

laid up policy with shannons at 50k is a smidge under $200 on a restored car which is unregistered...an unrestored/ disassembled being restored car is around $100 for 10k...the more cars you have the prices get lower so what i am stating here is a policy which has 7 cars on it...2 on full rego 1 on club rego 2 being restored and 2 restored but laid up...and it gets cheaper again when i put my house with them which i must do...

What about insurance for the 'intent' of having a hot car?

I am very worried my dream machine may be stolen
from under my pillow?

I had VIGIL on my cars while unregoed, and now have Shannons on my Buick unregoed. I can move it under it's own power provided I let them know. It's around $120 I think.

Does the term laid up mean that the car is not able to move under its own power, or that it is drivable and is covered just as long as you don't drive it?

As long as it's not driven under it's own power ( or so Shannons tell me relating to our SLR).

Covered for anything.. even being towed.. as long as it's not under its own power!

Cheers
