Yeah Super TT is the AMRS answer to sports sedans. I believe this would be the ideal place to run our little series....
Is anyone interested in seeing some shots of the walky? It is going in for its war paint (Telecom mobilenet colours) shortly, so if you like i will post a pic or 2 before I get a scratch on it!

With the Super TT Class in AMRS, even IP Torana's like mine can run... even if I fit slicks... so yep Rep C and A cars would be AOK.
And yes AMRS runs in NSW as well. They have TV, but entry fee's are around $500+.

The AMRS is a National series and yes, the fees are high, as are any National series.
At state level, the VMRC which also comes under the AASA banner is much cheaper than the CAMS series(or ARMS) and you get more races.
The way i see it, it doesn't matter if no promoter wants a replica class, if we turn up and run with Super TT, the interest generated will be enormous, especially if we arrange for the media to be present.

If they dont modify the entry fees we run in with Sport Sedans...the same interest will be generated.

I think it would work out the same either way, it really depends on what track you are talking about, some run CAMS events and others run AMRS. Although the TV coverage with AMRS would certainly help....
We only have 2 tracks in SA, Mallala runs CAMS events and AIR runs the AMRS (although the track is in such a bad state they couldnt run it last year.... thanks BOB
)
All we need is enough cars at the one event to make it a goer really.

Been thinking a bit more lately about where to head next with this idea and this is what I have come up with so far...
Some kind of registar needs to be created so that we avoid the inevitable multiples of the same car being made. Initially I was thinking we start it on this website, we create a new topic (called something like Historic Replica Register) have it pinned in the Circuit Racing section, and maybe lock it so only a mod group can edit it. People who are interested can pm one of the mods and they can be added to the list (if the car being replicated has not already been taken), this will stop it being a free for all and any arguments on who runs what. If it takes off, we can get serious and register a domain name and setup some kind of web presence (a website perhaps) that people can visit and go from there. Obviously this is subject to approval from the mod team so I'll pm Tiny and see what he thinks.
I'm open to suggestions, so fire away
The other thing that we need to do is look at selecting a "point of contact" or 2 in each state to try and spread the word to people who may not have internet access but are interested.
I'm willing to put my hand up for SA - looking for some suggestions from the other states..
so what does everyone think?

Thanks for the reply Mick....
I initially thought HRT..... But lately i have been thinking more towards TWR, i suppose it is a bonus that 90% of the kit on the car is from that very car! (TWR car). The rest is from the Barbagallo car....there is no way I'm donig a replica of that thing! It was pink!

I saw the pink car at Phillip Island one day last year. Very nice looking car once you get over the idea that its pink.

I currently race an LJ GTR in the Historic NC class. Obviously, your chain caught my eye and I have been observing since with great interest.
A few comments from an outsider:
1) I think the register is a great idea, however have you thought about what will happen when two or more people want to build the same replica? How will a decision be made on who has the right to build the replica and on what will such a decision be based? A first in best dressed system would not work long term, with many becoming disillusioned once the "favourites" are taken.
Depending on your aim (whether it be to replicate the racing of the period or to simply have access to look-a-likes as the real things are outside the normal mortals price range) you need to establish what would provide full grids at race meetings. Nobody enjoys competing against four other cars. I think you should tend towards replicars (an SL dressed as an SLR 5000) not replicas (a Brock Torana).
2) How are you going to ensure parity between the faster Group A cars and Group C? One of the issues we are facing at the moment is maintaining interest in the Nb class for the pre-65 cars. With the Nc cars getting quicker and quicker, those interested in winning, not just participating are spending more and more to get those tenths. Had you thought about potentially running split grids/split championships?
The idea is excellent and something that I have suggested that we need to implement at our club (HTCAV) to ensure the future of our racing. I am one of the youngest racers in the club (by a good 20+ years) and Group A/C replica racing would entice another generation to join.
Just my opinion guys. Either way good work so far!

I agree the process of selecting who replicates what cars is going to be hard to manage in the long term, and requires more discussion from interested parties at this early stage to try and guage what is the best system... I think at least initially running cars that replicate something would be the go as I feel its part of what would make the class more interesting (to both competitors and spectators). Obviously if the interest is there, I'm sure that things can be fine tuned by way of a sub class or something.... We do want to encourage as many people as possible.... Any one else want to comment?

It is a Replica class but it is not essential that cars are painted in any particular scheme...if you want to run a replica Group C in your own colours, thats OK..its still in the spirit of the idea.

That's not a race car Rory.....
Stock brakes, fake drop tank, standard shock towers, stock diff, stock hubs with ally extensions on them..... fake groupC side pipe.... horrible alloy press bent rollcage (look at the kinks in the front legs).
Its neat... YES... but wouldn't last 10 laps if leaned on heavily....
A good example of the "look" though...
