It may just be lifter noise if it has sat for a long time.

yeah dont have a light and gauge dont work cos its no connected cos the motor has a switch but i looked inside the rockercover and its almost dry in there so i think it needs to be primed like in the tread that evil uc hatch posted up...
but then again it could be the lifters too but need to get oil first i think

Take the oil pump off, unbolt the cover and then get the tub of vasaline out of your top draw next to your tissue's
Get a good handful of vas and pack it into the pump all around the gears until its chocka's bolt your cover back on put it back on the car, Give it a few winds over with the coil lead off, then fire it up, The engine will probly tick for a while, if it hasnt been run for a while, My old engine ticked for about half an hour until the lifters pumped, Just be patient, If the ticking doesnt go away after a long time, Get some LUCAS Heavy duty oil stabilizer, Drop half a litre from your sump and add half a bottle of this, its magic
see how you go with your wacky lube fist and let us know

the loud noise which i though was just cos the engine had no oil up top was actually the throttle body leaking but now i think i have sorted that will go out and test it a little later on this arvo

These are noisy at idle with no aircleaner and if thats a pod filter in your pic, that would hardly mask the noise.
Lift the throttle a whisker off idle and see what happens.

when u say loud how loud are you talking? this noise is louder than the exhaust its like a hissing noise that hurts your ears..

I had a high pitched whistle coming out of a car i had and had no idea what the noise was. The foam trick led me to a stuffed gasket between the inlet manifold and carb that looked perfect but was whistling really high pitched that hurt my ears when being revved.

Borrow a standard pipe and air box and dummy fit that to see if the noise goes away, you'll be surprised at how much quieter the induction noise is with a standard air box set up.

thanks for the idea Julian so would you see the bubbles being sucked in quite easily? perhaps it just the pod filter... especially because its straight off the motor and its a bit of a cheapy i think ive got dads VZ air box at home will maybe try hook that up and hear for differences..
another question!! did people doing this conversion with a T5 manual use just the torana clutch cable? or something different? because i cant seem to get it right and i think its max out and the petal release point is right at the ground making it hard to get in and out of gear..

I see you have a pod filter on there, Those throttle body's do have a very loud induction noise at idle, i wouldnt worry too much about it, Best thing to do if you think you have a vac leak, Get some CRC or WD40 and spray a mist around all the possible area's, If the engine Pics up a little from one of the area's you sprayed Thats more than likely the prob, But im going with everyone else on this, its the throttle body noise,
Regards to the clutch cable, if youve' gone max adjustment, you may need to get the cable resized, doesnt cost much at all, ive even done them myself with oxy/acetyln and a rod of silver solder, worked a treat.
good luck with it

clutch problem is fixed
noise is slowly getting quieter the longer i have the car running which is good its louder than i would expect from the pod filter however it doesnt seem to be affecting the idle or anything so might just leave it lol
if dad gets home early tomorrow were going to take it for a drive to make sure everything is sound and to make sure she doesnt over heat or anything
so its pretty much done
went to tyrefryers house tonight and got a few little thingy's for it and getting his lowered rear springs off him so should sit nicely then but not to sure about the front might be to low well i like it but dad recons its too low lol
will get around to making a vid of the car so u can see what ive done and how she sounds

i have had a couple of cars where the idle screw is wound too far out and the iac has to open to get the isle speed up which makes the noise.
when due for a clutch cable get one for a walky, they have a better inner and are/were only about 45 bux
