great work UNVSM8. looks wicked neat with real street appeal. How did the legality of it all go? I know a 253/308 can bolt straight into a UC in SA with only engine transfer papers required but i was under the under standing that a 304 had to be regency inspected.

Any hoo great job on the entire car, look forward to seeing it in the flesh.

Cheers

WOW!
I didn't know it was that easy, thought there was all regency involved...........
that's so good to hear Ben, glad my gear came in handy mate. And you saved some cash! when the sh!t weather stops deff get some pics.
I've actually never been for a ride in it. I'd be keen at some stage and maybe i'll eventually find an lc/lj to cruise in with you.
can't wait to see pics.
peace.

Chris it has 205's on it atm but i use to have 215's i think or maybe 225's but they were way to fat haha in not really sure how wide the wells are i thought 7inch but maybe they are 6's..

Got a wheels alignment today and while waiting was having a good look at all the wheels they had the guy there was telling me i could fit 10's easy on the back but i think he was smoking something haha im still keen to go 17's but will see!

as you can see it sits a fair bit higher but it is really the perfects height handling wise and when i get bigger wheels the guards will fill better and will probably look lower too! cant go any lower at the back had a full car last night and it bottoms on the exhaust over hard bumps! not a nice sound

On the cards is a fake drop tank to make the bum look tuffer! just got to work a few things out first as it will incorporate the fuel system and surge tank.

Enjoy!

hey guys well sent the car off yesterday to get its first tune up! they ended up keeping it over night as they had problems trying to work out a few issues.. turns out connections to the computer were very lose which explained a lot of problems i was having! They also found the fans were set up with the on temp too high so i have to arrange to get the computer remapped! and also at the same time get the air fuel ration set up better as its not great! and its booked in for that next thursday if all goes to plan! the timing was out along with a few other little things all in all im happy with what they have done!

anyways heres a copy of my dyno chart im pretty happy with the results considering its pretty much a stock standard engine 159.4rwkW

hopefully with the right AFR and a a remapping it might pull better! :D

Wow! Thats fantastic out of a Stock Inj 5L! I have seen them pull A LOT lower then that!

Definitely a bit lean as well, so a chip or whatever you do with those motors should do it wonders! Good stuff mate! You must be happy as with it! You have probably said it all before, but what diff and ratios are you running?

hey MRLXSS! yeah im very happy with the results! atm its only running the stock standard UC diff and is surprising that it holds up quite well! its got 3.08 gears in it i think... in the future i'll be going BW with a different ration maybe...'

Hi Ben
What sort of money does a tune cost? Im also using a 3.08 diff and my car kicks my utes bum and spedo goes off the clock easy (private road of course) however it uses more fuel than ute (when driven normaly) and im also interested in how much hp it has.

hey Neil! well it cos me a little over $300 i think (dad payed for it and i have to pay him back :D) but you have to keep in mind my car spent 2 whole days there while they sorted out all the wiring issues so for that and the fact that the car is now running much much better i think it was well worth it!
before i got it tuned i did around about 250km so will be interesting to see how it does now!

well thought it would be best and got the computer remapped and the air fuel ratio fixed went to pick her up and was driving home only to find she stalls everytime i come to a stop at the lights... fires up straight away tho! took it back and of course the guys gone! got dad to ring up and anyway turns out that my speedo sensor isnt working apparently that causes this to happen! my speedo stoped working a while back i juts thought it shat it self or sumfin! and because my car was running that rich before it wasnt a problem as it kept it going sorta thing!  so whipped out the senor to find its all intact and i can spin it and make the speedo jump! whipped out my little mirror had a look in the gearbox only to find the gear that the speedo gear runs off has slipped in away from where it is meant to be... :banghead: ahhhh its just a never ending list of problems! now the gearbox definately has to come out! but me and dad just got to find some time! hmm anyways turns out the chip i got from Castelmain was given the chuck in exchange for a reprogram able one... little annoyed as i paid a fair bit to get that done over there but if something is going to go wrong it happens to me :D haha ah well!

Just thought i'd let u all know :)

You should be able to remove the extension housing from the gearbox to fix the speedo drive while the gearbox is still in the car.

If you have anymore computer/chip problems, let me know as I can program them. Sounds like you are getting the run around.

The extension housing on the transmission needs to come off (remove tailshaft first)

No worries and will help no charge!

Your thread attracted my attention because I got an identical coloured UC hatch that I am rebuilding (except I'm changing the panels to LX). I have good access to Commodore parts (wiring looms, components, PCM's and programming equipment), so I'm going for an injected bent 8 conversion too. Got a nice 380kw LS1 in my day to day car that will look REAL GOOD under the torrie's bonnet (I can tune these too) , but still toying with 5L V8 for keeping costs down. I also had intended on keepin the same body colour but after the extensive repairs that I have started, the whole car will be bare metal'd and different colour chosen (got a soft spot for Pure glossy BLACK).
Will probably be leaving it flareless ( <---- if there is such a word!), upgrading brakes and diff, T700 auto (tunnel work under the car will probably be needed), I want it to be a sleeper too.

Was reading back through your posts about the throttle body hissing you are getting. This is extreemly common when anything but factory airbox is used, however, an incorrectly adjusted throttle blade stop screw can make it a lot worse than it should. Also, IAC port in the throttle body could be clogged a bit too (carby clean often fixes that)

Cheers,
Dave.

Flareless is definitely a word, and a very suitable one to describe how you should build your hatch, Dave :D Surely you wouldn't go to the effort of swapping from UC to LX, and then hack it up for flares anyway.

You should throw some pics up here, I'd love to see what's involved in the conversion.

Sorry for the little thread steal Ben :P

I just like a clean STD looking car. Don't get me wrong, I love flared Torana's but, how many Hatch LX's do you see on the road these days restored without flares? I don't see too many at all
I will start another thread (so Ben's thread stays on his car) for the build with photo's, cause information on the conversion is scarse and I had to work most of it out for myself. I am not an expert on panel repairs by any means but what I am doing will work well and will last.

Dave.
