Dave seems like you know your stuff! i'll be interested to see your thread unfold! let me know if u need to know anything else as me and dad would have hit the some of the same obstacles you will!
on the hissing side of things i have been hard at work today and have fitted a modified airbox up under the guard i may have lost some power but to tell you the truth its 1000000000000 times better with out the endless hissing and i can actually here the exhaust haha unfortunately i cant drive it very far as it stalls but when i can i'll see if i can feel the difference..
now just to fix the other problems! willl be taking the gearbox out to inspect the spigot bush and hopefully solve the screaming down there this week or next weekend...
And finally give her a wash! its depressingly dirty! lol

Cheers all!
Ben

Cheers and good luck!
I have been involved with several engine conversions including Torana's, and I work with a mechanic who specialises in that sort of thing, so I have seen the obsticles already!

I have now started my own thread in this section of the forum.

Dave.

hey guys!

well out came the gear box yesterday! and today we spent alot of time getting it all sorted as well as a few other things..
found that the flywheels has a few hairline cracks in it which probably isnt good looking to get it machined on monday!
the spigot bush seemed well lubed however it may not have been pushed in far enough duno.. but got a new one anyway so we will see how thats goes.
got to work at my heater box! haha we spent like 30mins just trying to get it out! luckily i slotted the rear holes anyhow heres what ive done
Posted Image
marked where i wanted to hack
Posted Image
decided to make it more of a curve heres it cut out
Posted Image
chopped up a piece which fits nicely and melted all the edges with a soldering iron making sure it mixed with both sides!
Posted Image
then did some tacks on the back for extra strength
Posted Image
filed the edges and ended up with this
Posted Image
here you can see the difference
Posted Image
used some spray putty to fill any imperfections
Posted Image
and its now ready for paint
Posted Image

took the pics as thought some might be interested! it is turning out really well should look great with paint i guess

Cheers

Ben

That's the stuff mate :D There's $400 saved that you don't have to spend on a modified heater box :spoton:

Very tidy job of the fan box mate, I done a very similar job on mine for the injector rails to clear, A mate was gonna fab me one up from alloy sheet but i decided to stay with the original look just sprayed it 2K gloss black.

IMO $400 For a modified box is ridiculous, for the sake of an hours work.

Keep up the good work dude :spoton:

Thanks Greenmachine!

heres how everything sits now its all back in and shiny again :D

Note in the first pic the pipe to my new hidden air box..

I just have to mount the fuel regulator and its all done...

Dad pulled apart the gearbox to find that the clip which holds the speedo gear was crushed up in the bottom of the box so that was the problem there... we have put a new one in and got it all working..

regarding the spigot bush noise it was lubed how ever were not 100% sure if it was enough or perhaps it wasn't in properly.. we have put a new one in so hopefully all will be sweet now fingers crossed..
