Hi mate, love the car, awesome job man. I just recently bought a uc and I am looking to do the v8 conversion, I was wondering roughly how much it has cost you all up to do this conversion? Any info would be greatly appreciated. cheers Aaron

Hey mate that is a very good question! it depends alot on weather you want to do the wiring and that yourself and how cheap you can get an engine etc
i'd leave
$3500 for engine/gearbox/computer/accessories etc less for a auto
$2000 for the conversion kit from castlemain auto electrical
then there is lots of little things you forget about so id say easy another $3000 for things such as tail shaft alteration/enginemounts/ alternator bracket/ v8radiator/hoses/nuts and bolts/paint/oil etc
let me know if u need anyinfo on anything and i'll dig it up for you

Cool mate, thanks heaps for the info. I am just thinking that because this will be my first major conversion should I go for an old 308 carby motor instead of the fuel injected? do you think this would be an easier approach and less costly? cheers mate Aaron :spoton:

Definately no harm in putting a carbie 308 & four speed gearbox in, and if you feel so inclined, changing to an injected motor with a T5 or the like later on. It would be a cheaper and easier conversion by a long way, and will still be a good stepping-stone if you decide to take the extra leap in the future.

what heath said is correct theres nothing wrong with a carbie 308 however it also depends what the car will be used for... i drive mine daily and for me theres nothing better than just getting in the car and going not having to wait for it to warm up etc and it is probably much more reliable.. in the end its really up to you :D

No the UC has ADR 27A on compliance plate so any carby motor will have to meet this to be legal which means original air cleaner with stove pipe.

Injection from a VN onwards neatly sidesteps the ADR 27A emission reg hassle gives more power, more torque and chews less fuel.

Ben If your running a 9" in the rear of your hatch I wouldnt bother with a swaybar, The whole "handeling" option went out the window when you took the standard one out. plus its not goin to be very noticable on the street.

lol the Commy springs would be pretty bad with that kinda tyre profile. They aren't that bad when you have 13"s on your car :P

Well it has been ages since i have updated this but seeing as i entered my car in All Torana day here in Adelaide i thought i'd post up some pics

Not alot has happened with the car since last time i have however changed the springs again to re-compressed king springs which brought the back down some more and have made the ride not so rough now

I also made up a breather for the diff as it kept leaking oil everywhere from the standard breather. so with about 20cm of hose and a fuel filter i have sorted out that problem :D

Other than that i have just been driving her daily and making the most of it!

In the next few months im saving up for some new shockers, front brake upgrade getting my seats redone and some new injectors i'll be sure to keep u guys updated!

Anyways heres some pics:
(thanks to Kaz and Laurie) :D
