Hi all


The Antoniou book describes 7 camshafts that were fitted to LC an LJ XU-1s (see pages 114 and 115).

The last one mentioned, Part Number 9929247, was fitted to the '72 Bathurst and the '73 production run and was the last camshaft that was developed ex-factory.

I guess my question is "if not GMH - who produced the '73 Bathurst cam?

I rang up wade camshafts 2 weeks ago,an they told me my camshaft
was made by them in 72,my grinde is a 38/78 but i never asked them
about the ones were fitted in 73's,cheers.

Accoding to the Antoniou book a 38-77 is correct for a '71 LC Bathurst. I would have thought yours should be a 55-94 which was '72 Bathurst to mid '73.

Hey Bazza i was just talking to Dave Mclean about the "73 bathurst" cams & i think you will find Bazza that the class of racing changed from Series Production to Modified & the Camshaft was Open to run whatever you liked some companies they used were Waggot cams,Wade cams,Speco cams etc...thats when the HDT CARS ran the WEBBERS & THE TRIPPLE 2" SU'S with the camshaft to suit...

Yep - I get that impression from my readings, but the engines must have left the factory with CD Strombergs with some kind of cam.

So that means that the info on page 115 of the Antoniou book is correct. I had read somewhere that it was wrong.

That still begs the question - what is the part number for the '73 Bathurst Special cam, the one that came fitted to the magic ??? Bathurst Specials?

Hi Bazza,thanks for the info on my camshaft.I remember when i rebulit the engine in 94,it had xh stamped on the front of the camshaft,so is it a 71 camshaft???.I cannot wait until my hand does get better,so i can fix my timming cover gasket,and take photos of it,its still got the original alloy timming gear on it,and has a part number on it,but i cannot remember the part numbers on it i never wrote them down,cheers.

So in essence you are saying that the '73 Bathurst car came with the .429" lift cam?

The Antoniou book lists the .429" lift as GM part number 2823364. That part number has been in the parts catalogue since Feb 1972.

The .456" lift cam (GM part number 9929247) is described as the '72 Bath and the the standard cam up to the introduction of the '73 Bath Special cam (no part number given for the '73 Bath cam). 9929247 was definitely introduced from 31 Aug 1972.

Can someone with a 1973 edition of the NASCO parts catalogue provide the cam info please?

There is only one LJ XU1 camshaft listed in the green parts book (M37608) - part number 2823364.

In Fiv's book on page 161 - catalogue amendment dated 23 August 73 - there is a list of engine parts from engine No, JP386598 (no 1 of 150). There is no camshaft part No listed there.

To get Scooter's camshaft from Holden you needed part no 9935129, which is "Engine Block Complete (Short Motor) including Crankshaft, 'Camshaft', Timing Gears, Pistons, Pins, Rods, Timing Cover".

To my knowledge, no one on this site has provided Holden's Part Number for Scooter's camshaft, which makes be believe you couldn't buy this camshaft as an individual part from Holden. Maybe they just gave you Wade's phone number.
