Hi all
The Antoniou book describes 7 camshafts that were fitted to LC an LJ XU-1s (see pages 114 and 115).
The last one mentioned, Part Number 9929247, was fitted to the '72 Bathurst and the '73 production run and was the last camshaft that was developed ex-factory.
I guess my question is "if not GMH - who produced the '73 Bathurst cam?
Bazza
Hi Bazza
I know I'm dragging up an old thread but I reckon the Fiv book is incorrect.
My count is there was only 3 different grind camshafts used in the LC/LJ XU1's.
Think I'll put my flame suit on now just in case (not because of you though Bazza).

Cheers
Dave.

Yes the Fiv Antoniou book is correct in respect to the camshafts for track
cars!( are other mistakes )
The green Holden parts book is also correct in respect to the street camshafts ( are other mistakes )
These two do not contradict each other because first lot is for race cars and the other Holden publication is for street cars, they rarely sold race prepared cars to the general public, but some rare race examples were, as confirmed by Peter Brock some time ago.
The few race prepared cars sold to the public did not last very long and usually blew their engines in a few weeks when driven on the streets, I have a first hand reference to one blowing it's engine in a very short time.
late 72 and most 73 had the same cam ( about 44/ 88 ) unles they were race special orders when they had the 55 / 91.
Many XU-1's could easily have had their cams replaced either during the warranty period, or at any time since, and many engines were pulled down and balanced to head off engine damage problems, as many were blowing up.
Cams could easily be changed at these early times, so great care needs to be given when quoting cam numbers from existing engines.
Replacing complete engines seems to be a mistake in the Holden parts book as by 1975 there were no "production XU-1 engines" as stated in the parts book that I am aware of, to draw engines from!
The very latest NP replacement short motors I have found, were mould dated Aug 1974, some may have sat on the shelf for a while, but there would probably be few if any left by mid 1975.
Block and piston set replacement, is more certain as these would be purpose built for before or after the 14th of August production change over.
Prior to July 1973 block and piston sets were the same as HQ from my limited information.
