Oil pickup

This was 9 years ago. 

I ended up doing nothing like the above, I actually just used a stock head with 3/4" cast steel weld el on it and a bit of pipe out the side.

I've got to make mine as well. How close should I have the pick up to the bottom of the sump? I'm thinking about extending the windage tray over the pick up as well. Also shaping the bottom of the sump, under the pick up, into a X shape and have the magnetic sump plug in the center of the X, so that at an oil change all of the oil drains out and any fine particles of crap.

Keep the pickup to sump clearance about 10mm.
