Therefore this creates 2x2 = 4 and so you have to divide the front spring rate by 4.
This is why you have large spring rate on the front end.

Thought it was to hold the engine off the ground....

That's just a bonus.

the spring is mounted roughly half way along the arm, which gives a 2:1 ratio, and thats it.

from my (limited) knowledge of suspension and what ive read trianglated 4 link is better than parrallel, suspension 1 , and suspension 2
the trianglated 4 link dosnt need a centring devise such as a watts link or a panhard becuse the trianglated upper arms control the pinion angle and stop lateral movement. if there is lateral movement it must be from flex in the bushes, the control arms or the mounts.
im not saying the torana suspension is the best design but its what we're stuck with, unless you redesign/fabricate the lot. no suspension is perfect, far from it all suspension is a comprimise, and if it was that good i ghess holden would still be using it. anyway like i said im no expert and the evidence on this forum says that a panhard or watts link is a improvment, so im probly just speaking out my arse

I'm with you, mate! I was considering a panhard rod but I've since decided to stick with tubular trailing arms with Super Pro bushes and a slightly bigger diameter swaybar. This will minimise flex without causing any undue issues associated with adding linkages that weren't designed to be there.im not saying the torana suspension is the best design but its what we're stuck with, unless you redesign/fabricate the lot. no suspension is perfect, far from it all suspension is a comprimise, and if it was that good i ghess holden would still be using it.
Like you, I'm not saying this is the optimum setup, but it's the best I can do with what the good old General has supplied us.
