Matt Black in real light would be a lot less dark. Does look alright though... esp if you're going for the rat-rod kinda image :)

Heath is right, I used a photoshop curve layer to change it to black, while curve layers are awesome and preserve lighting tones/reflections/shadows for the new colour, all colours seem to work beautifully except the blacks.

A car painted in matt black would look lighter in true light, you could ?maybe? get some very dark non-metallic/non-gloss black made up though.
You might then get the very dark but not reflective look you're after.

I have a black 02 HSV GTS coupe in phantom black as a daily driver and I can say your constantly washing it to keep looking half decent. small scratches in the clear show up as white lines until they are polished out. Minor imperfections show up big time like bird shit that you cant be bothered cleaning off for a few days will eat into the paint and be seen quite easily. stone chips are a pain too. If your gonna go black make sure you have dark primer etc.

They do look shit hot if your prepared to put in the elbow grease especially just after a polish and wax

Worst part is as soon as ya clean it. It always rains or ya have to drive through sprinklers. gotta laugh or you'll cry ha ha ha

Why would anyone want matt black?? it's never going to look clean, even when it is, the rough surface will look like it's just something abandoned to the weather. Don't go matt. My satin black bonnet is hard enough to look after

i no how you feel with the bonnet, specialy when u live in a town like mine wich is all red dust, makes things hard. i love the look of black toranas but i do think they loose the effect of the flares with the rubber and bolts not standing out as much but thats just me...

I've always loved the look of a matt/satin bonnet on a Torana, but I don't think I'd ever own a Black Torana without the intention of respraying it differently. Same with white... or even grey. I've seen nice examples of virtually every colour on a Torana, but a whole car painted in a 'tone' doesn't really do anything for me, unless it has a really mean pearl!
