It's a better photo than the only one I have of a Torana in a rally.

Anyone got any other pics of L34 Rally cars? I have been asked to do a background check on the HDT L34 Rally car (Pictured above AO 5822) and any leads would be great!! It spent most of its life in Tas.

in the movie fj holden theres a large poster of that car in the bedroom of the main star, so maybe you can round one up from who ever printed posters back when the film was made.

without saying too much, the car was at AMCM this year and most of you would have walked past without knowing. The owner has now aquired the logbooks for the car. It has quite a good history in racing and still is driven.

some history... went from rally to group c, then back on road, then stolen, found after a couple of years then sold to owner that has it now and races it regularly.

Thats very interesting Kev. I know Brian Callaghan, the famous speedway bloke, bought it with the intention of racing it on the track, but it didn't eventuate. I always thought he ended up "speedwaying" it? Would love to get a chassis # from it. The HDT/Harry did a little bit of work on that car in the day.

I was doing some club rally stuff years ago with a mate. We had a LX with a 202, 350 holley, cig diff, V8 springs and retread rally tires on the back.

I was probably the heaviest car at the event days, but I still managed a best of outright 3rd place (from 26 drivers and 1st place in class)

Man that car was fun..We had the nickname of banana's in a torana (banana's in pajamas).

The best fun was in Nowra after some heavy rain and the rooster tails from the torana was awesome..

I love driving Torana's on dirt...

It might be Rory, but he did have a crack in another L34 before purchasing this one to race himself.

Gday Folks
I was looking around a few weeks ago and came across the rally articles. I owned this car many years ago. It was Ed Mulligans and then was sold to Brian Callahan who raced the car at oran park a couple of times. It was sold again to Ken who lived in Glenbrook NSW. I bought the car in full race trim in about 1981. I wenr to see brian and grabbed a bunch more spares. It had all the standard gear and the also the race trim. I rebuilt the car, resprayed it salamanca red. I sold it in 1984 to buy my house. It had just 7,000km on the clock when I sold it. I later sold the spares to the next owner and gave him the photos so he might have them copied. The rally photo I obtained from Ed Mulligan it is a beauty. That is the one on the forum. I contacted the owner some time later and yes the car was stollen. He was without the car for a few years. One day he was driving past a car yard in liverpool and noticed the car on the lot. He called the police and the car was impounded while the true owner was determined. He did eventually get the car back. Not sure what happened after that. This car was a very nice one. It still had the race engine but I had to remove the cam and detune it for registration. I did drive it with the fresh race engine very strong between 3,000 and 7,000 revs. Where is it now? If any one knows or want to know more please post and I will fill in the gaps if I can. Regards
Emanl34
