They are found directly below the reinforcing bar which is screwed
down on the top of the bowl.
The numbers should start with 23-****

HR 186 X2 (twin BX Bendix-Strombergs) became the 186 S (single WW Bendix-Stromberg) on June 19th 1967 at the same time as the intro of the 4-speed Opel gearbox option.
This would make it late HR.

The numbers are facing the radiator, 23-****
not the number in the circle.
By the looks of you photo on the front carb where your brake booster
hose is.

Louie,
Back carb is 2376068 and 3/32
front is 2376068 and 5/32
That make sense?

2 screws at the front of the fuel bowl,
directly below that looking from the radiator (almost underneath that plate)
will be some numbers starting with 23-3***,
NOT 2376068 thats a casting number.
There will be more than likely dirt and grease, its hard to see but not impossible.
By the looks of it there are 2 different size carbys on it.

It is either under that plate or just on the upper part ofNo numbers on the float bowl, If I remove the reinforcincing bar and clean it will I see them?
R
No numbers here
where the centre body meets the top of the carby-
where you have cleaned at top you might have to look
real hard, sometimes they are not stamped real good.
Just to the right of that casting seam.

Have a look at the numbers on the throat of the carby,
behind the bolt and nut that holds it onto the manifold,
The numbers should be the same,
If there are different,
the carbs will be nearly impossible to get to run well,
need a matching pair of carbs,
with matching jets,
then it will go well.
Cheers
Chris.
