I spoke with Gary from STC - Southern Branch this afternoon and it looks like they have maybe 4 cars driving up on the Saturday. As it stands now they are not planning on attending the Fri Night Dinner.
I gave Gary the motel details and the entry forms I printed out from this Forum.

At the next Canberra Torana Club meeting I will try and get an idea of who might be leaving when.

Cheers
Alan

Hey guys im currently tossing up between qld powercruise (late august) and toranafest to attend this year. I can only do one because my budget just wont stretch that far. Im just wondering if anyone from qld could give an idea on approximately how much i'd be looking at for fuel, food, accommodation and entry fees etc to come down for the weekend. Its a v8 lh but i have a 3:1 diff and 5 speed.

I'd love to come down and meet everyone and go for the big drive down and back. And would love to go down to show my car off to fellow torana lovers, and see all their great cars.

cheers, rowan

Hi Rowan,

We drove down last year from the northside of BrisVegas in our 308 hatch, spent $900 in total (2 people) - $400 in fuel & the rest on motels - 2 nights, breakkie, lunch, dinner & snacks for 3 days, booze & spending (goodies at Toranafest & bob sled at Coffs!).
We have 20+ QTCC members going this year & we are all sharing rooms 2 cut costs. We would highly recommend it - fantastic drive & an awesome weekend!

Cheers, Dave.

G'day All

I'm not too sure if it has changed because of the huge population growth of Sydney but I believe there are times when the traffic is a lot heavier.

Haven't been for quite a while but these are the times I would avoid travelling through Sydney

6am to 10am ie people who are going/leaving to work/schools etc.
3pm to 7.30pm ie people who are going/leaving to work and those going out to shows/cinemas etc

So I hope to be travelling on the Westlink around 11am on the Friday of what is going to be one fantastic weekend

The last time I was on that road was last Jan 29 when I travelled through to Newcastle to attend a family funeral.

I got a visitors pass (E-tag pass for short time users) but thought it was alright for both directions BUT it is not. I should of paid the $2.90 toll after coming off the Pennant Hills Rd and onto the toll road heading south.

Being from the country I am not a regular user of the toll system and ended up getting a late payment fee BUT thanks to the company who runs it, they waivered the extra fee :spoton:

Just thought I would let those who do not travel into or through Sydney very often about the Westlink.

Find out more
http://sydneymotorwa...CFQsiIgodXzrcTw

For me the best sight of Sydney is in the rear view mirror of my car travelling south along the Hume Highway :tease:

Regards .............. Barry

Bec,
I can assure you (and Mick will back me up) that a "little" primer definitely isn't a bad thing.
And you'd be in the running for the Encouragement Award.

I'll be there and like last year, I just turn up on the day.

Most people hold off to see what the weather will be like then turn up on the day.

All I can say to anyone hesitating about going, Toranafest is an unreal day, very relaxing with a stack of mint torana's on display and a bunch of top people involved. You wont regret it :spoton:

BTW I think it might be a good idea if one of the clubs has a BBQ, maybe sell Sausage/Steak sandwiches if allowed by council? That Chip/Pluto pop stand was GARBAGE.

Good way to make some $$ for the club and nobody gets food poisoning.

LS1LX Due to Council health regulations foodstuffs can only be sold by licenced vendors, sorry

than making it a payment for sausage sizzle, what do you think???.

:D Keith,

I am not sure about the use of BBQ's on the reserve by private individuals.

I will try and find out what the situation is, mind you the vendors are an integral part of our support for the event and we certainly do want to encourage people to use them, having said that we have sought to get a wider variety of food vendors to the event this year to cater to peoples diverse tastes so maybe this might help, do you think?

In line with suggestions made after last years event we are going to get an Egg and Bacon Roll guy to the venue early to fill those "bellies" that need breakfast or a grease injection to settle the night before imbibing !

Garry
:spoton: The Fatman :deal: mmmm Egg and Bacon roll mmmmmmm no such thing as bad fat!

Hi Guys

just to clear up the whole "Food" thing. Here is how it stands..

To sell food, ie hot foods you NEED to be a licensed food vendor and have the appropriate approvals with the council. The council also requires us to send them full details of those vendors attending the show. They are very strict on this and we had an issue where a vendor came on board late a few years ago and we nearly got fined!!

In saying that, there is no reason why a club (and our club does it on the day to feed it's members and the VIP's) cannot set up a barbie and cook for it's members and it's guests. With regards to "sangas for a donation", it's still selling if you advertise the fact and therefore you need the approvals. Even lions clubs need these approvals.

As for the others, we have more food vendors this year (one does a mean roast roll!!) so hopefully this will give people more choices on the day.

I hope that this clears up any concerns..

cheers
Mick

That ain't quite the case. Ho-hum, wonder why I waste my time sometimes. We researched both ACT and NSW.

seems as though the problem with selling is actually the council, not the actual food safety laws.

Pat,
as has been said, the city council requires ALL vendors to be licenced for OH&S and Health reasons.
This applies in most cities and towns, and a council ranger can close you down if they see fit, even on private premises.

Like I said, wasting my time.

Local Government (Council's) role is to implement and enforce State law, but you guys know best.

Pat
All I can do is go off what the council tells me.

Here is an extract from their Application for License to Stage an Event;

PART E: FOOD/ALCOHOL

Are you proposing to provide food?
Both the event organiser & caterer must have a minimum $10m Public Liability indemnifying Council. A copy of the document/s must be attached to this application.

Details of food van/s, owner/operators name & Council which van is registered with & types of food sold.
..
Details of temporary food premises, owner/operators name & Council which temporary premises is registered with & types of food sold. Note: A floor plan of temporary food premises may be required to be submitted for approval.
..
..
Public Liability Insurance Provided to Council Organiser  Caterer 
Registration No. .. Local Govt App No. .

I know what you are saying, but I think that some councils "modify" laws to suit their requirements

cheers
Mick

Pat,
do you not understand the concept of By-Laws?
And Local Gov/City Council regulations?

These are used to accompany, clarify or amend State Laws where appropriate.

Having worked in the construction industry, alongside city and local councils, and now the state government, this just makes sense.

You cannot fight a Local Gov regulation by using the defence that the State Law allows it.

Mick, it's a special provision of the Act, if you go into Council using the word Vendor (i.e. commercial entity), they will treat you as one. Tell them you are a not-for-profit organisation and you want to hold a fund raiser, and things will open up for you. The only limitation is that you can't do more than 5 a year. That's how boy scouts etc. do the fund raisers at Bunnings, etc. Some jurisdictions like the ACT just like you to notify them that you are holding the event.

Hope that helps, although probably too late for this year.

We went through the same arguements at Council. We looked into it and found out the facts, and did the information page.

As a Club you should have PLI, and with ours we also have Voluntary Workers and accidental food poisioning cover, so I'm pretty sure our Club is covered on all bases. Council also researched the best deal for car clubs for insurance, we get all that for $600 a year.

Grant you have no idea. Being involved in both the construction industry for 25 years, and in Government for the last 10 years, a voluntary member of local Council advisory committees (including Chair of one), and part of an "Abolish the Third Tier of Government" lobby group committee at Parliament House (voluntary interest group), including presenting a number of papers, I think I have some idea of how the three tiers of Government work.

Anyways, water is over that way ---->
