Hi All..
About 2 months ago I replaced the sender unit in my fuel tank as it was faulty.I pulled up today and noticed fuel on the bottom of the tank.I jacked up the car and it appeared to be leaking out of the sender unit. I will remove the tank to make sure but the question I have is ...
Is there a silicon I can Use to put on the gasket to help seal ?
Or should I just buy a new O ring Gasket?
I am hoping that is all it is ..and the Tank itself isn't Leaking.
I am pretty sure it isn't as I have previously cleaned and painted the Tank but you never Know.
By the way the other sender I put in was second hand as was the Oring.
Cheers

Petrol eats silastic, so don't waste your time. I was told of a sealant that could be used with petrol tanks back in the mid 80's, but I can't remember what it is/was. A new O ring should be cheap enough.

Hey Chopper..
Thanks for the reply..ended up buying a new gasket ($3) from rares but on closer inspection it appears to be leaking from the electrical connection point.Bugger !!
Any way $120 later for a new sender..all I need now is the time to put it in..
Regards

Do you think it could be re-soldered to stop the leak?

Very doubtful mate..
It is where the Electrical connection pin goes through the metal Frame..
On the inside there is a tiny rubber gasket which seals it which has partly perished and on the outside it appears someone has previously had a go at sealing it with araldite or something similar to stop the leak (It did work for a couple of months).I suppose I could have a go at replacing the rubber gasket.
I pulled the tank out today and replaced it with the new one..
The fuel gauge even reads Full when I have a full Tank now instead of 3/4 !
So two things fixed at once..Ya gotta like that
:spoton:
Wil hang on to this one as a spare and have a go at fixing it myself..You never know when you will need it.
Thanks Again

Hi Obey1, if you don't mind me asking, where did you get your new fuel sender unit from?

On inspection it's a very simple piece.
and the parts look in good condition but was moving about so had somehow become a bit loose. maybe by me fitting the connection to gauge.

So figured at the moment I think i can get away without paying the big$ for full unit replacement for an issue caused by:
push on fix on the inside holding a plastic washer on outside and rubber grommet on inside.
Have put some pressure and clamped the clip back down, then put epoxy over both inside and outside.

fingers crossed.

I had exactly the same issue when i refurbed my sender. I just recompressed the spring washer clip down and leak was gone.
