Hi all,

Just wanted to know if anyone has used the supercheap spray cans to paint any metal on there cars. I just used it for east to paint the front cross member and am finding that it scratches and chips to the primer quite easily....

Is this because the paint is crap.....Prep work has been done properly mind you.

What are your opinions on this.

cheers.....

I assume you mean the Export ones???

If so, yes, its because there crap. the only thing i flick with this stuff is little brackets and crap that i make up that you cant see.

For $3 a tin what do you expect???

Cheers.

dont go near export paint. depending what you're using the paint for, but a really really good spray paint is Montana.
Its made by graffiti artists in europe. It is awesome. It sprays thickly and covers really well. Stays on anything too. Can also get them in really cool colours.
Alternatively use auto paint in a can from auto-one but its a tad pricey!

K&H primer surfacer has insane coverage compared to most. Don't go near Motospray. Australian Export is so shithouse... needs a few weeks of baking before you can actually use it properly LOL

Still has its place though

If i am just painting brackets and stuff that I don't actually really have to "work with" for a while after I spray them, I use the aussie export stuff lol

Use it a bit on the bikes as well but have to be patient if you're doing that.

If it doesn't say "Acrylic" on the label or description on the back then it is enamel. Enamel is cheap, and will fry up if you ever try put acrylic over the top. A good can of spray paint will be about $12-15 a can, and will say "Acrylic". If it has Lacquer in the title, then it is also likely to be a cheap enamel.

Septone is good, that's the one I use for bits and pieces.

While you are at Supercheap, buy the $20 spray painting book, that's where I got the advice about spray cans from.

^ Oh OK. I'm starting to think alot of the brand stuff they sell is stuff that is out of date and hasn't sold previously that they've bought up cheap (excess stock).

for the best spray cans around u have to spend about $13 a can. like lcgtr1970 said go for a can that graffiti artists use cans such as Belton Premium or Montana they have massive colour ranges and the paint is very thick and rarely drips

'Metal armor' is my choice.
Don't even need primer! Stays glossy.

Not sure what work pays for it!

Hey all!! Sorry to dig something up from its not so old grave, but i'd like to comment on the Power Plus paint from Supercheap! Before my speal gets too long, i'd like everyone to know that i'm not a spray painter, this is the first time i've sprayed a car, and this is before the car has been washed and rubbed back/polished... So its not a showcar paint job, but looks pretty hot for a supercheap job!

I used about $600 worth of paint/primer/clear, its called Cyan Metallic (early 70's torrie colour!!) which i bought from supercheap! There are 2 good coats of primer (grey primer is the recommended primer for this colour), rubbed back to smooth, 3 coats of paint then inspected surfaces, then 3 coats of clear. I gave it about 30mins between coats, then two days to dry before i eventually washed it. Now i've gotta just rub it back and polish and wax it.

I didnt remove any dents because i'm slack, what you see is it - front right 1/4 panel and a few small "bum on door" dents on the passenger side... I left the bottom panel at the rear in brown because i need to remove some rust before i paint it.

P.S. I did this over a period of 3 weeks, 1 day for front, week off, 1 day for back, week off, 1 day for centre... Very sore index finger...

It was really 6 weeks because i fly in and out for work (week on week off), so had i not been at work it would have been 3 days!!

I'm pretty happy with the result! Looks better than what i'd ever expected from supercheap cans!!

Repco has a range made by HOLTS which actually comes in genuine colours. i.e. Glacier White, Jasmine Yellow, etc. etc. It's about $15 - $16 a large tin and I reckon its excellent. Easy to apply good adhesion, good gloss. The trick is to put it on dry as in sparingly and put on loads of coats. If the surface starts to look wet when applying, you are using too much in a coat. My front spoiler came up like brand new and I don't think it chips any easier than the real thing. Half a dozen tins and you could do a whole bloody car!!!!!

Yep! The whole car!!

I was bored one day and decided it'd be interesting to see how good a job i could do on just the bonnet... Once i'd done the bonnet then the front end looked wrong, so i did the front end! It spiralled from there!!

Its hard to believe, but yes, all spray tins... I'm buying a compressor this week in case i ever decide to spray another car!!
