Is the angle of the bend in the gear shifter lever different in the early flip lid LH consoles from the later non flip lid LX consoles. In other words is the shifer the same with each console or are they slightly different?

Cheers

Of course, who cares about autos hahaha,
I do believe the leverage built into the mechanics of the shifter it's self is the differing factor, nothing in relation to the bend in the stick.

thanks Mick.
Oops, that reminds me that there may have been four - two more in the silver - one with small switch cutout, and one with larger rectangle impressed.
Hatchblack had three black and silver types at one point.

To my knowledge there are 2 types. One had one single longe rectangle panel with 3 black insert areas to put switches, the second type is as I have pictured with 3 small squares. The only variation on those was then silver or woodgrain, so all up 4 types.

I know this is a pretty substantial thread troll but seeing I am new to this, I am hoping for some grace and a bit of advice too please.
I've been offered several interesting LX Sunbird Hatchback pieces including the console.

I know the photo I took isn't ideal but is this the same console as fitted to an LX SS?
If so, is it an easy swap from auto shifter to manual or are the two not interchangeable?
Thanks and cheers, TB

^^^^ Remove your switch panel, you will see two screws & a plastic pin, remove these, the auto cover slides up (as your pic stands) & lifts out, go to Rares purchase a manual one, fit in reverse order & Bobs your uncle.

Can anyone tell me if the mounting points for the sedan and sunbird console are all in the same position and use the same brackets? I am toying with the idea of either fitting a sunbird manual console with a new surround or a sedan console in my LX build. Would be cool if the mounting points were in the same position so I can decide once the interior is in.

As far as I know the  consoles are same same, it is just the inserts that vary...

Can anyone tell me what type of 4 speed shifter I should be using with the hatch console? I'm using a late lx sunbird console converted to suit my v8 4 speed but even without the shifter surround I have to be very careful when moving across to select reverse otherwise if I'm too 'rough' it actually hits. I started searching online and it seems there are quite a few different types. Some of which are pictured here on oldholden. http://oldholden.com...#comment-256668
Going by these photos I think I have a uc/early Commodore type with the rubber insulator. Is this correct or do I need a different type?
