 Re: Website...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
about 6 months ago i set up a torana forum to help troy, owner of the holden torana web site (torana.ion), because the old one was full of eeediots troy didn't seem interested in moderating it. so, i put a new one together on the coolboard system. not long after, troy's site went down and he told me he was setting up a new site, which is great but this site is to include all makes of holdens and he wanted forums to suit. i felt however that a torana centric forum would still work well and suit us torry enthusiast better so when coolboard notified it's intention to close, it was a good opportunity to setup up a Torana forum and so i did here.
i want these forums to be a true comminuty place. i don't consider these forums mine, they are ours. i've added tinkerz (qld torrie club) and enderwiggenau (sydney torrie club) along myself (vic torie club) as forum moderators so we have a good spread of enthusaists who can help run the community. it's going well so far and we all seem happy with it so great![]()
thinking along the lines of a better torrie community i started adding a 'torrie projects' page to my agentorange website but now i think the torrie community would be better served with a dedicated site. i run a few websites already (agentorange, vic torrie club, a tfc clan & these forums) and i don't find time now to regularly update them all so if you guys want to do one that would be fantastic and i'm sure you'd have everyone's support. i'll help where i can, be it layout, info whatever. i can provide hosting space if need too.
first place to start is to find a location where you want to put up the site. i's suggest you make sure you can put up to 10-20mg at the location. i can help secure an appropriate domain name from a free service site of you want. next, decide who exactly you want to target with the website and layout how you want to deliver the content. once you have that sorted then start on the page design that is simple to maintain yet snazzy enough not to bore people to death. setting up a few mock-up sites will help you work out how you want it to look. last step let a few of us know and we can check it out for you for a bit of testing like. then once you're happy set it free and watch grow into a helpful and fun site to visit.
...and no need to ask, of course you can, please add the forums as a link. in fact, if some of you are going to collaborate in building it, i'd suggest you may want to use a forum here to discuss it's progress. i'm quite happy to setup another forum for thr website. it can be password protected it if you want to keep things quiet whilst you build it.
let me know if i can help.
cheers.

New Holden Dedicated Website
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey V8Agent, sorry if i gave you the wrong idea, it will be an all holden site. I have nothing against ford or toyota or any other, i just wanted to span the webpage to more then just torana enthusiests. So i made it all holden for now.
Is there another Holden Torana website made, i have been browsing the forums for months and here alot of talk but i havent visited a URL yet.
The new page will be for any holden driver from toranas to geminis to barinas. So i will keep you guys updated, just having a few problems setting up a box to run the website from but it will all be up very soon.
Thanks
Troy

Welcome to the new website - by V8gent 19:34, 12/02/03
Welcome to the new website. "What's new about it?" you may ask. Well the web pages and forums are now hosted on the one site. Obviously the look has changed a little but not dramatically so. no sense in fixing something that broke.... All the content is is here, plus more and all necessary updates and corrections have been done. Hopefully this makes for a better site.
"Why was the change made?" you might ask? There was a necessary change required for the forums and with the move to the new forums, it only made sense to have the web pages and forums hosted together. "What was necessary about the change in forums?" you may ask. Simply, it came down to two main reasons; cost and maintenance.
Cost: ezboard have once again upped their pricing structure to the point where it became beyond a fair and reasonable cost for a non-sponsored community based website to sustain. for 12 months of ad-free ezboard membership the would be AU$550 p/a and this figure would only increase as more members come along. Even with the generous contributions given by various members, this cost is was unreasonable. Thanks to Imagineering Technology, our new website host, this cost is greatly reduced.
Maintenance: Moving to new forums, the Webmaster (er, that's me!) can have complete control over the forum software and usage. If theres bug, I can fix it (hopefully) and we don't without having to wait and rely on ezboard. If there's a change or enhancement required i we wait and rely on ezboard. Ive chosen a powerful forum package called phpBB which hopefully many of you are familiar with but if not, its not hard to pick up. The search function actually works in the new forums as opposed to ezboards attempt. The new forums allow more customisation and the forums and threads are much easier to maintain by the moderators and myself. As well, to ensure your valuable contributions to the Tech Help forums on ezboard, most of the threads were imported into the new forums.
As for the website, a few items have been removed and these were removed because very few hits ie; they offered little interest. Theres only a few new additions too as most of the changes have gone on behind the scenes. Heres what's new or changed:
Finally, we have a new feature car, this time we're having a look at Mick McCardle's original SS Torana
Helpful forum member Sam 62 Holden has been added to the Readers Cars section
Tech Articles added: UC rear discs on LH/LX by enderwigginau
Tech Articles added: Tyre ID by Enderwigginau
Paint & Trim codes added and some images updated in LC, LH, LX and UC Info & Specs pages
New Canberra Torana Club added
Torana Clubs page updated with website & contact details
I hope you all enjoy the new site, particularly the new forums.

HAHA I use to do the same thing!i lurked for years when i could find the site! i came across it by accident about 4 or 5 years ago, and could never remember the name of the place, so i had to search google everytime i wanted to find it again (and it was never on top of the list!)
Now i think about it, i reckon i joined ezyboard in about 2001-2. My first post (or my one my first posts) would have been a wanted to buy thread. Looking for a Hatchback, I dont think i got any leads from it. Just a few people telling me i have good taste! LOL
I remember the introduce yourself threads and all that! I use to run a website called Hot Holdens (Back in the day, not the current one) and i had heaps of Torana, Commodore, and Burnout Pics on it! LOL. I Had a pic of my parents old VR commodore on the main page, cos i use to think that car was the ducks guts! I was about 13 when i set that site up! it was a yr 7 project... HAHA!
Anyway, Anyone remember that old site of mine? might have been hotholdens.tk. When i got the Torana in '03, i built a new site (another school project) called operationtorana.tk! LOL it was an indepth build history for my car... haha. That site was still up until a few months ago. But i Hadn't updated it for 3-4 years! Once i got my licence and the car was on the road, i had better things to do! LOL
ahhh memories
