yes I am asking for your help again! I am turning my 77 SL LX 4 door Torana into a mock up SLR 5000 (as I sadly can't affors a real one) and have become a bit confused to which type of cluster I should be looking for? Some clusters have yellow needles, some red and some white. What is the difference? And in what year did the dashes change from the white to yellow style? Finding lots of very "different" types at swaps, on ebay etc.
If someone could please tell me what type I should be getting to try and make my mock up look right for it's year/ model? Thanking you in advance... Bek.

But in my opinion... The White needle ones look heaps better! Mainly because they dont fade! I have a white one in my hatch and it looks great!
Also, White ones are cheaper than yellow ones

The needles on a particular cluster should all be the same colour, and have the same level of fading- given that they have been exposed to the same level of light over the years.
Cheers.

I reckon you should still be able to get one around the $200 mark at a swap meet...

Firstly, the 'yellow' gauges are the correct ones for the LX series. Secondly, if it's a 1977 model then it will need to have the later units, where the park brake & brake fail are 2 separate lights. The 1976 ones have 1 warning light for both brake functions.
Over the years these gauges fade a lot, so the original gauge colours are difficult to distinguish.
AFAIK, the needles are not yellow for LX, they are orange. However, the lettering and graphics on the dial face are yellow. I own a low mileage 9/76 SL hatchback & that's how those gauges are coloured, likewise some individual gauges that I have stored in boxes. I think the 'yellow' needle thing comes from the UC & HZ series where the needles are yellow, but the dial face lettering is white.
I think many of those red needles on the previous page have been fiddled with.

first up, LH. There are 3 different types of LH I have seen, the first has miles and KM, the second is as pictured, and the 3rd has 7 digits in the odometer while this one has 6
The next is the early LX SLR type
Late LX type. These appeared in around mid 77 and have the park brake in the bottom of the speedo as you can see.

what month is your car? im pretty sure my spare is dated 5/77 and doesnt have the park brake iirc.
only problem is, it has clocked nearly 400,oook.
i would be wary of ultra low k's on any speedo off ebay, i reckon i was about 7 or 8 when i figured out how to wind a speedo back,
they usualy wind back in the same digit, ie: 666,666, then 555,555, then 444,444 and then u can tune the other numbers.
prices for non-park brake dash is about 2 - 300, but i have seen park brake dashes go for 5 to 600 a few times.

The last few expensive ones I saw on ebay went for just over $900!! PS, I don't drink beer, but a Jim Beam would go down nicely lol, just kidding
