[FLY_AGAIN_XU-1]

In 1971 Holden produced a total of 700 LC GTR XU-1,s (According to the vin disk). From January to June 1971 Holden produced a total of 400 LC XU-1,s. The initial batch of 200 were for eligibility and the next batch of 200 being for homologation 1/1E.



From very late August through to December 1971 Holden produced a further 300 LC GTR XU-1,s. These 300 cars are known as 1971 Bathurst XU-1,s. Homologation 2/2E.





Allthough not successfull at Bathurst (1st in class) they went on to defeat the mighty Ford Falcon GT HO Phase III for the 1971 Manufactures Championship, truely earning there title as being Giant Killers. They also went on to win the Australian Rally Championship and numerous races throughout the year.
Of the 300 Bathurst LC GTR XU-1,s built it is said as few as 12 to 15 may still remain with us today.

Unbelievable that only so few may have survived compared to other factory specials that Holden has produced. But then again if you own one then you are one of the luckiest XU1 owners

would be interesting to find the correct number left and not hearsay amounts. All i hear is contradictions about how many left.I know of four in melbourne including mine, numbers matching and 3 in n.s.w and 1 in Q.L.D, but as for the rest of the country..Buggered if i know..

The ones left in melbourne what colours are they ?

They would have to be more rare then the 72 and 73 bathurst i would think..

There is absolutely no basis on which to make a 'rarity' claim from the information available on this forum. You don't honestly think that, a) every '71 Bathurst owner is active on this forum, and b ) that if they were, that they would speak up and let the whole world know what's in their garage.

There are more than 10 still around, probably more than 15 !!

The Baroda Silver Mk11 from about a year ago on ebay hasn't been mentioned. Then there was a white one at the XU-1 nats which hasn't been mentioned, then there's another Baroda Silver Mk II that I used to own that hasn't been mentioned...etc, etc .

Ha ha, no, not upset, but claiming that 'that's not many' on the basis of what has been written here has no basis in fact. No shit that's not many! There aren't that many XU-1 owners on here, compared to how many actually exist, is all I'm saying. There are a few here, but not all of them.

And just because I don't act like a sheep, blindly following the mob, doesn't mean that I am not conversing. I'm simply putting a different opinion forward.

zook mate we are just chatting see we now know that their is a Baroda Silver one.
I am just interested in finding out the colours, I don't care what anyone says but reckon they are the rarest xu1 i wish i had one.

We own a 10th month 71 ck block Baroda Silver mII and have owned it for 10 years but it is under a full resto. I know of 2 other baroda silver xu1's and one of them is also a ck and not to sure about the other.

Nice mate your gonna have to post some pics of your restoration.

Wasn't their another bloke on here restoring one as well i think his user name was
John or gong.
He use to do a really good job on his restorations but havn't seen him on for a while.

There is a Plumdinger one in the latest issue of Unique Cars (no 285, Page 180).

Yours for a mere $120k.

Seller claims it is the last of 504 1971 Bathurst LCs made and comes with a
"186S engine (Bathurst)" ????????????

Everything I have read indicates 1971 Bathurst cars have CK prefixed engines.

this is what i have chased up 7 in melbourne, 6 in sydney 4 in brisbane 4 in wa and there seems to be 7 in adelaide and lets not forget that there is 2 in tassie. these recoeds are of what i keep only, i know the colours of these cars and also know what of them are reshells, and the rarest one of them has houndstooth intirior. please keep in mind that there are cars still sitting out there what we dont know about, so these are only what i know of. so that brings the total of 1971 bathurst toranas to 30.

Hi Tuffgong it was you that i was talking about, How are your rebuilds going as i used to always follow your threads on the rebuids especially the lime green xu1 that you were rebuilding.

Why are,nt these 200 1971 LC XU-1,s known as Bathurst XU-1,s ? After all they were built to homologate what is traditionally known as the 1971 Bathurst camshaft, the XH.

The engine numbers would hold the key as to if holden deemed them to be a bathrust car.

According to the Nasco Parts Catalogue for the LC - the "XH" cam was part number 2823364. This part number carried through to the LJ XU-1.

Cam grind is identical though timing was varied slightly. They done the same in 1970 however the part numbers 2815739 remained the same.

I don't understand your point. Why isn't 2822075 in the catalogue? Did it have "XH" stamped on it too?

I know you will get to the bottom of it.
