Well in another thread I saw a picture of a Mawer rim that was painted. Now i haven't refurbished mine yet and hadn't considered painting them, but the pic I saw looked quite good. So I whipped out to the shed and quickly sprayed a centre to see what it would look like.
Now which style do you like? The one with the painted black bits? Or the just metal finish look? Of course the centres will be properly polished in the end.

What I would really love is to have the skills and photoshop to add them to my car to see what they would look like.
There was also another style and that was to leave a bit of the webbing unpainted...but I only have that paint program and that is not to good. So forgive my basic attempt, but you get the idea.

Chrome the rim and paint the centre alloy. Make sure you don't leave them bare, they corrode badly, thats why not that many are left around.

They corode because they are magnesium NOT aluminum.
If the original steel bands are still good then why put on a set of ally bands? The original bands are stronger and lighter than the ally ones like RED has on his A9X anyway.Also they aren't "original" as soon as you replace the bands and apparently that is important....
My vote is for blasted then painted and cleared centres with the rim bands painted satin black..... On a Barbados 4 door....... HOT!

Jongbloed are still making wheels in the USA, I friend who works within Ford told me a few years ago that they were one of the wheels that they considered for the 2005 Shelby revival car. Maybe try ordering a set of them undrilled?

Sorry, but the centres are NOT magnesium on Mawers, they are alloy.
I replaced my rims because most of them after 30 years are stuffed. I could have had them remade in steel as per original, however the guy who was going to make them was a complete moron who couldn't give me a straight price and in the end it would have cost more in steel and I then would have had to have chromed them to get the look I wanted. I still have the original rims in the shed. Alloy was cheaper and I can tell you they are as light as the originals. I also wanted 8's on the front rather than 10" all round, so this way I could have the combination I wanted.
Have you priced a set of Jongbloeds through them in the US? I did, forget it. You can have them made here with the original moulds much cheaper and you don't have to ship them from the States. Craigs email is in another thread for remaking Jongbloeds.

these pictured above are 13x7 and 13x8 to suit LJ. i will get same made for mine as the 13x10s are too big on my LJthese belong to another forum member he had new alloy outers made for his mawers

I may try painting the rim black. Although I don't know how it will go against the black tyre....
That is my other dilemma. there doesn't seem to be a lot of choice in a 14" tyre these days. I will have 7" on the front and 8" on the back. From a trial fitment the other day a 235 tyre was just borderline. (No flares.) So that leaves me with 225 possibly. I then have to try and match that with the fronts.

Hi all,
Well I need more opinions. I made up a couple of more mock up options. I will show them below. Could you let me know what options you reckon look the best.
Option 1: chromed rim and polished centre with black middle bits.
Option 2: painted black rim and polished centre with black middle bits.
Option 3: rim painted dark grey and polished centre with dark grey middle bits.
Well I need more opinions. I made up a couple of more mock up options. I will show them below. Could you let me know what options you reckon look the best.

^^ :+1: i think the black or grey with the tyre on, will make the wheel look like a 4wd mud terrain tyre on one of those tiny rims....

Hi,
The other difficulty has been finding decent tyres that fit under the stock guards. I tried this cooper 235/60/14 on for fitting today. It maybe that with all the low profile tyres around today that this looked like a balloon. so i may have to go skinnier on the back. but the the next available size is 215/60/14. do these look to much like balloons?

You should be able to get 245/50/14's, these will look much better imo, slightly wider so will git better on the 8" rim and lower profile.
