My old Gun metal LX Hatch is one of the best and gun barrel straight hatches I have ever seen. Bought the car rolling less engine and trans in 1990 off a guy called Paul Edwards here in Adelaide for $5700 who ran a hot 350 in it.
It was virtually a brand new car that had been fitted with several NOS panels and several other brand new parts. The interior was standard SS rear Herringbone seats, SS door trims, a pair of 2000 series Recaro Seats trim matched to the rears. An original SS dash that had a monster Moroso Tach fitted in the recess where the standard SS tacho was. The dash was painted also in the cars color.
The car also featured a custom wiring loom which was neatly housed in a tin lined glove box. An MSD 7AL2 was also fitted to the side of the passenger kick panel.
The car was featured in Street Machine magazine page 155 December 1989 issue "Aint Misbehaving".
I replaced the Weld Wheels with a set of Bob Glidden Drag Stars, had the chassis rails trimmed, and had the engine bay touched up prior to fitting a 427 Big Block.
I have never driven anything like that car since and have wished I kept her instead of selling it to help finance a house
If I had a scanner I would post a pic of the Street Machine feature.
Oh and I have since located the car sitting in a garage in Adelaide but the present owner isn't keen to part with it
