Hi All...
Could someone please tell me what the difference is between Black ,red motor etc in a 308???
Reason being I need to get another block and was wondering if the different motors will make a difference when I bolt all my bits back on
ie...Inlet manifold ,heads, crank, cam etc etc...
Cheers.. :spoton:

Don't bolt the early red type inlet manifold on a polution motor and other then that, you should be right.
Bolting a non polution inlet on a set of heads that have the exhaust cross over will end up with exhaust gases in ur sump.

I have a Performer on Brock B cast heads but manifold was supplied with no centre holes so i fitted it with non pollution gasket to block centre ports.
A couple of months has passed and engine is breathing like puff the magic dragon do i have exhaust gases in my sump ?

^^^ Nah looking at ur pic, i don't think so.
Its only the early std manifold that cause's this problem, along with a couple or rare manifolds like the Duggan and Weiand XCellerator, from long time back.
A couple of simptoms are :-
You would have little to no oil pressure. As the crank case pressure in the sump is higher!
You would have major oil leaks out of every orifice too.
Look at the manifold below, see how there is not enough alloy to cover the exhaust cross over ports in the heads. Thats the problem i talk about.

This manifold below does have the required alloy to block the ports.

My puffs like a dragon too. I just use Penrite HPR40, problem solved.
Have you been giving it a hard time :D

Yes i have been driveing it hard but only after spending lots of time and money fitting new cam, heads, roller rockers, manifold, carby, distributor, fuel pump and lines.
When i had heads off i checked bores and pistons and they looked pretty good with hardly any lip or scoreing.
But as everyone is sure to tell me i have only done half of the job.
the engine is original matching number at 30 thou i think i will probably pull it out and put it in the corner with a cover over it and build another engine when i finish my trip around oz .

U are spose to drill the centre hole ur self to suit what model heads ur using.
Look at the underside of the performer and u will see what i mean.
