hey guys, for a while now my steering column has not been straight. last year i mounted the gutter pretty hard and clipped a no standing pole, so by hitting the gutter fairly hard would that have done something to the steering column?
ive had a look at it and its not cracked anywhere. ive unscrewed it from the dash and then tried repositioning it but it still the same.
sitting in the car its bent to the right. standing overhead looking at it from above the windscreen in you can see that its crooked.
if anyone has any ideas thatd help heaps.
thanks
sammy

Look for this under the indicator stalk. Common fault. Crack in the outer column.

Costs about $125 to fix if you put it into a steering shop. Fulcrum Steering if you are in Bris.

i hada look around there and i dont see any cracks or breaks. like the whole thing is on and angle. ive loosened the bolts and pushed it backwards n forwards to see if that straightens it out, but no luck still.

What car are we talking about here? LC/LJ's steering column is offset to one side.

You won't see this crack unless you pull the steering wheel, and all the other gear off the top of the column. I think it cracks where your steering lock barrel fits in.

You need to remove more than that to see it. It's right near the bottom where the ignition lock locks the steering column.

mine was split at the top like the above picture but not as bad, And also the mesh cage on the lower part of the column was bent to the right, Easy fix, i pulled it all apart and bent it back straight before i rebuilt it Just make sure the collapsable shaft hasnt worn the plastic bushes inside and there is play or movement :spoton:

Hi I know this is a bit of an old topic but I've seen an LX steering column bent at the collapsible area halfway down which caused it to sit at an angle, best to replace it.
