OK been a bit pre-occupied lately.
Need some more assistance. I need to take the windows out of the front and rear doors and the weather strips, rubbers either side of the windows.
Never done it before and so dont wanna stuff anything up.
Can anyone help with some info on what to do?
I'd like to replace the rubber seals and the bottom of each side of the bottom of each window. Guess there in the rare spares rubber kit. Which I have not purchased yet.

Leigh

Hi Leigh. Removing the window rubbers (belt moulds) you're talking about can be a real pain in the ass, especialy if they've been in there for 30+ years. I normaly remove the door glass to make the job easier. Back doors are easy, lower the glass, unbolt the reg from the door & slide it off the channel at the base of the window then remove it from the door. The glass should lower further into the door now. Remove the quarter glass divider channel by removing the phillips screw at the top, then the 3/8 nut at the base. Wind in the threaded stud & you should be able to move the channel enough to take the quarter glass out. Now remove the divider channel. Sometimes removing the threaded stud will make this easier. Now the door glass can be removed. Front doors are easy too. Lower the glass about half way, remove the bolted on channel the regulator runs on & you should be able to tilt the glass forward & slide it off the regulator & remove it from the door. To remove the belt moulds, i use a wide blade paint scrapper. The moulds are held in by metal clips & i gently work the scrapper along between the door & the rubber until i find them. Then i gently push down on the scrapper & lever in. Sometimes due to age these metal clips break but i've managed to get the moulds off without damaging them before. If they do break, repo ones from Rare Spares aren't that expensive & are pretty good quality. I've used them on my cars with no problems. Hope this helps. Good luck with it & be sure to post some more progress pics. Cheers Matt

This is called a ferule i think. Here's a pic of one i removed from my Torana.

As you can see, they're held in by two metal prongs that are bent up to locate it on the door frame. To find & bend them down is difficult, so i usually pry them out using a slightly bent thin bladed flat screw driver. As the are metal encapsulated in plastic you have to be very carefull & gentle when doing it this way but as you can see by my pic, it can be done. If they do break, i have a few spares i'm quite happy to post to you, or you can by them new from Rare Spares. Cheers Matt

Matt, thanks, I got the little ferule thingys off, I reached in and straightened one of the tabs and then they come out fairly easy. One of the tabs broke :(
If you can buy them new I might just get a set of new ones, but thanks fot the offer Matt.
I removed the external mirror also. The little plastic screw bit the pushes into the door broke at the rear inside the door so had to get pliers and hold the plastic thread bit. Can u get new ones of those ?
Thats all I'll do this evening, but at least ive done a little bit more.
Still very undecided on the colour scheme.

Yeah Rare Spares sell those plastic mirror grommet things, i bought a pair for my Torana as the original ones fell apart when i tried to remove them. Geez you done well to reach up & bend those ferule tabs down, i guess you must have alot of paitence. Can't wait to see some progress pics, the lengths you're going to to build this will make a very neat Torana. Keep up the good work Leigh Posted Image

Hi Matt, didn't really find it too hard to get to the ferules to be honest.
I would put some photos up, but all seems the same to me its just all pulled apart. I guess I can take a few.
I usually do things properly all not at all, and at the moment the motivation is down quite a bit so a lot has stopped. The only way to really do this properly is to pull everything off it and paint it and put it back together again. Replace everything that needs to be replaced. Should be like brand new when its done. And I'll be driving it not leaving it in the shed.
Im going to try do a bit today if I can, so I will get some photos. JUst watching the 1979 Bathurst right now haha.
