I have noticed that no matter how hot the car gets it never sends any excess fluid to the over flow bottle.
Running a 15lbs cap.
In the Holden book it says 253/308 uses 13lbs with thermo fully open at 202F

Chev 327 13lbs @212F
Chev 350 is 15lbs @217F

That seems pretty hot to me..
Is a 13lb lid the go or what?

Suppose the first stupid question is,

Are you using a recovery cap? or a standard cap?

Them it wont work as a recovery system.

I'm using a factory UC recovery system with a recommended cap for it and it works a treat.

The std cap only has a gasket, the recovery cap has a large seal.

Yup, and I believe the recovery one has the lower pressure setting.

Both my old original cap and the recovery cap are 15 psi.
Main visible difference is the big seal in the cap itself and its got recovery stamped on the top, too hard

The recovery cap should have a small valve in the centre, that lets water back into the radiator as it cools

Ur not supposed to be loosing water with either system.
Standard cars run low pressure caps, race cars usually run higher pressure caps, 13pounds and up to compensate for the higher heat generation, a trade off from the higher out put of the motor.
The higher the rating of the cap the higher the temp u can run before you loose water.
