Not many with flares - my opinion what a Bathurst 5.0 litre LJ could have been.

Hi 2600S..Im a fan of the orig. LC GTRs as well....had a Rally Red LC GTR back in 1974 as a first year apprentice. Didnt touch is as I thought it was perfect just as it was. Now have an orig. LC GTR in Indy Orange now. They tell me the white ones were a big seller back in the day....but I dont recall seeing many back then??...regardless they look great and yours is a prime example by the look of it.

Really guys it does look better in the pics, Id say about 70% of the car is still the original paint, but thanks for the comments, also special thanks again must go to Bullitljv8 for his hard work and assistance!

This is the only Brett Hayes car that I am aware of - its tangerine, no sprintmasters and it has 13X6 and 14X8 Armorlites.

This is the article from Street Machine April-May 1989.

According to the article, engine was built by David McLean at Maitland Performance Centre (he used to be on Alan Grice's pit crew).

I met Brett Hayes in 1989, as he didn't live far from me, I used to see his car a lot, he actualy took me for a drive in it.. I really only remember it with the Sprintmasters on it. It was one of the best looking XU-1's I've ever seen.... not totally original, but bloody beautiful.......

I've said it before and I'll say it again, it's hands down the best XU-1 in existance. It may not be the rarest or have a racing history or have been in the family since brand new but having seen this car in the flesh, and amoung some very esteemed company I might add, It definitely stands out from the rest of the pack and is a credit to Dane and his commitment to restoring it to absolutely original condition.

It'd take a very special car to knock this one off the top spot.
