only problem with them is they would require alot of work because they are not flat and wrap around the side of the car

Yeah they look like they could be cut and shut, with the lows blacked out they might look quite a bit LXish, also what about xa-xc f**d or VC-VH commy?

Anyone...

There are pics somewhere of both Commy and Ford conversions (XE).
The Ford is recent (last month or so?) and might be in the e-bay section?
The Commy was a while ago now.
Good luck with your search :D

From what i have seen. It is easier to get the UC lights looking better, than it is trying to retro-fit something else...

I am still yet to see replacement lights look good on a UC... Still prefer a blacked out (Or tinted) pair of UC lgihts

I saw a UC in midland last night; didn't look too special although had a modern-looking LED taillight setup. From looking at the car and the lights i'd assume it was an off-the-shelf item, so perhaps someone's finally put it into production. Maybe an ebay search?

BTW, it looked pretty cool, and a huge improvent on the original.

Cheers

Another of my old UC's, I was 18 when I had this. I thought it was shit hot, still didn't like the lights tho. They were like it when I bought it.

the easiest way to fix the back of a UC is to put the car into reverse and back it into the nearest brick/concrete wall, as hard as you can

They don't look that bad when they are all cleaned up and polished. The commodoor tail lights in that photo shop look great.

The UC with the round lights look okay, but you would need to add a different colour around the tail lights themselves.

I was thinking about getting a mate who does leds for bike tail lights to make a prto type for the UC. I'll send him an email and see what he says. How many would be interested?

Macca, that comment was out of line and uncalled for.

The problem you face with welding up the old UC taillight mountings is they are indented, and it will take a lot of work to get it flat like the LH-LX. You have to fabricate a lip just above the back bumper and just below the boot lid, as well as integrating the beaver panel and finishing off the edges before it wraps around the side of the body. But, you could just weld up the taillight mounting holes (and leave the indent) and still have a factory look, but it won't look as smooth.

Edit: thats not my car, I got the picture from the canberra torana club website. 2nd from the bottom is my favourite.

I have some dimensios of the commodore taillights and am going to look int them a bit closer.. keep up the ideas though they are all good food for thought!

that would of been me in midland boltz. there are some photos on my photo bucket page of how i did them. that was lust bolt a plate in over the hole for the original lights and then bolted the lights on to the plate. then bog around the corners to make them smooth.

I was following a truck today that had these lights on it's trailer and realised
they are quite big. I looked up the Narva site and they measure 160mm x 112mm including rubber surround. I mesured them against a UC lens I have and I reckon they would look more like this?

I measured them up against the rear of my lights and I think I got the proportions pretty accurate. But you make me doubt now, I'm gonna go recheck my measurements tomorrow and get back to you.

edit: couldn't wait and run out into the cold to check. They would more like you chopped, ie. epic failure.

I agree with studricho. A good clean set can look quite good, especially with wide rear tread. Ive seen people blackout the vertical lines and that can look nice too. It really comes down to personal taste.

Hi guys, I did the photoshop(s) of the UC with commy lights.

Looks great on the screen, but when I bought a set off Ebay,
I now know they wont fit. Its not the cutting and shutting that is the problem,
thats quite an easy do over, so LH/LX to UC is easy too, but the problem is
the slight angle on the side part of the lights.

The LX and UC have a very straight/flat section in the fender here, and the
LX lights are also straight/flat, and visually fit well. The UC obviously does
not have this issue with no wrap around.

Tail lights I have been playing with are late 70's and 80's Mercs, 80's and 90's
Volvo (best fit IMHO) XE falc (but too long, have to chop down) and the
best pic of all - Opel Monza lights. Try and get a set though......

Comes back to what dont you like about UC lights? the size?, the lack of wrap
around compared to LX?

I now have a set of UC lights that I will begin to play with. Mostly adding bits
to, and blacking out. That's the easiest path without a doubt.

Keeping it in the Holden/GM family is also something to consider, as the stylists
of the day all shared info. You get a theme running thru the designs too.

Has anybody tried painting the Orange plastic backing at all?

Maybe if you did it black or something, this would give the lights a darker more subdue look.

I have heared of this before, but havent seen any pics to compare the difference. I would like to see how much difference it actually makes.

I also have heared of them being recessed into the body so they dont stick out like they do, thats the bit about them that annoys me the most

Yes, the pic is deceiving but they make a big difference if you see them side by side. The amber becomes amber instead of orange.
The lens colours become the same as LH/LX but because the lenses are bigger they still look brighter but not as flouro.
Maybe a darker silver?
