they dont look real?

are they photo chopped?

they dont seem to have any depth. the uc needs lights poking out to fill the void between boot and bumper.

and why buy a uc put weird lights on it and call it an lx??

I'm pretty sure that they're photochopped, because that is Max's SS's hatch, which I'm fairly sure has normal LX lights...

I just grabbed some of those narva style lights from work, 2 reversing lights and 1 blinker, they are actually not as big as what Rodomo said, they are from memory around 75mm wide and 125mm high.
if someone wants them to have a play around with let me know, I am pretty sure they have blown globes but would be ok to get an idea of how they look

My dimensions included the rubber surround.
Here is a link to the Narva catalogue, might find something else?

New guys, read the post before commenting please.

I posted those photoshops to make a point.

Using the principles of the UC arse, I made an LX hatch fit those same principles.
I dont like it. It needs the wrap around the sides to work. (should have swapped
red to orange too, with orange in the centre)

My entire point was what dont people like about UCs?

Are the lights too big?
Is it because they are reversed, red outer, orange inner?
Is it because they are slapped on the outside, not inset like LX?
Is it because they stop at the edges, not wrap around like LX?

That's why I did the UCs with wrap around tail lights ah-lah-LX,
and followed up with a shortened UC tail light with wrap around
to see if that was any more pallatable.

I liked the outcome so much I did a front too, and turned it in to a what if?
What if GMH did a UC like this? Would it have been more accepted.

Well, that's my rant for the day!! :furious:

Beer time..

Righto... heres my spin...

GM designers were asked to revamp the LX from front to rear, taking advantage of new design ideas like RTS and the A9X style rear, , half way through their work the VB designers came in... work on the redesigned LX-UC halted and all the hard work and money spent on redesigning the LX had been misspent... maybe.. maybe not.. GM not wanting to hedge all theyre bets on the radical new Commodore decided to go with a small budget on the UC's arse end by producing a taillight assembly that could suit many different models, and not limited to sedans or hatches but also vans, trucks and other plant and machinery.. Just in case the UC's sucess was limited they could always flog a million sets of taillights to the munchy van industry...

And they did!!

Least I know where to find a spare.

sorry leakey, i didnt realise what it was when i first saw it. this flu has been playing tricks on me, i thought someone had actually done it and registered it with lx plates, ha.

anyway, i dont think its the lack of wrap around thats spoils it, more (for me anyway) is that they dont protrude and sit flush with boot lid.

yeah, thats them, the series 45 ones.

if I was to fit them it would be without the rubber surround. the rubber is pretty bulky. they mount on the truck they came off without the rubber. they would protrude about 5mm from the back of the car.

do you want them to have a look at?

Hey Brett, I almost erased that post.

Sorry to come across so heavy!

Got flu too, and am bitchy as hell. The drugs + beer probably
wasnt a good idea. Codine and me dont mix at the best of times.

Hey thanks for the comment, that's the sort of thing I was after.
Do you think then, that the current light would look better if flush
with the boot lid? Interesting.

the current lights as in the one in your photo chop??
