Aaaaarrrrrrgggghhhhh !!! My poor car is being publicly defiled. Cease and Desist at once !!

Brings back memories of the cesspit I used to rent though, I dont miss that house(?) at all.

Anyway, carry on raping my car at will, it has never had so much attention............. :D

lol I know you're using paint which makes things kinda difficult, but a very important thing is the SCALE. It's all well & good putting VK lights on it for example, but when the size is completely wrong, the look will be completely different.

What about these UC tail lights : )

Posted Image

Sorry, had to be done. It is a UC after all.

I think if you want to keep it obviously a UC, then leave the lights full size, but sink the mounts right in so the lenses are almost flush, then tint the lenses.

However, if you don't want it to look like a UC, what about a set of 1968 firebird tail lights?

Each side is a one piece unit, with the 2 strips of lights.

Posted Image

Or there's the 1967/1968 camaro lights.

Posted Image

The camaro has the fuel filler sticking out the middle like an LJ, whereas the firebird has a flush hinged door, except the one in the photo is welded up. You could run a hinged door, or aviation style filler and relocate the number plate to the bumper.

Just a thought anyway.

Hi

Dirtbag i think you picked the best tailights of them all, good old LH-LX ones.
Camaro tailights are a good idea but id pick the firebird ones if i was doing something different.

Those firebird ones are the kinda thing I was looking for.

I'm assuming you can buy the lights as repros, but do you need the bodywork around them to fit them in? Can't just go to the wreckers and cut out a firebird taillight panel haha but if you can make it easily that would be sweet.

Camaro tail lights wouldn't be too bad. I've always thought the front of a UC has looked vaguely like a camaro (don't know why, but when maddy drives WILDUC behind me, always seem to think it) It must be the folded over bonnet and the wide, skinny grill?

I've been giving it some more thought and I thought about making up some flush fitting lenses from tinted perspex to fit the original lights, with LEDs behind instead of bulbs. Get rid of that pokey out look.

I think getting it flush would be a good start, but there are so many ways in which you can make it awesome or terrible. Very interested in seeing anything that anyone comes up with.

At motorvate I grabbed these photos for interest's sake.

I remember staring at the back of my VB a couple of days ago and thought about this thread.
What about the VC SL/E lights?

The Commodore lights are great on the commodore, but the bodywork around them is all complex and made to suit them. I think you need something off a car that has a flat arse, and no overhang from the bootlid - only a protruding bumper bar, that's why the late 60s F-body is so good.

Rubbish - I think they would look good and be a fairly easy fit. Just need to ask dirtbag to make up a new mounting panel that mounts them as flush as possible :-) Or find a wreck and cut out the rear panel around the lights and weld that onto the UC.

At least they are a vertical and square (ish) light so if you could get them mounted they would like good IMHO.

i like the tinted uc lights with the chrome trim and blackouts like on UNVSM8's hatch. but commodore lights are too big and would look stupid. if they were smaller they may look ok.

i think its got alot to do with the colour of the car with uc lights they go well with some colours and not well with others

as Heath said, you need something off a car that has a flat arse, and no overhang from the bootlid

im with dirtbag. ive got lx taillights in my uc best way to go.

lxefi304 "but commodore lights are too big and would look stupid. if they were smaller they may look ok."

Have you seen the size of UC lights??? I doubt the VC lights would be "too big"

Isn't (part of) the point to change the lights from being SOOO big in the first place? My opinion is the VC and UC rear ends MAY have a similar look with the chrome surround and blackout.

Anyone handy with photoshop?

would have to change abit of sheet metal as even the VB VC tail lights curve around the rear 1/4's

Dirtbag wins def the best UC taillights EVER...

however there is a UC getting around down here that works for me... have to grab a pic next time I see it but it's white and the taillights just appear to have been tinted dark and at least to me they don't look as god aweful as I normally find them... every time I drive past the dang thing I find myself thinking I want it

The LH/X swap is really taking off !! Dirtbag, Berro59, UCGANG (I think thats him !) and myself all doing the swap recently. Its pretty simple and doesn't look out of place, hey you can still buy new lens even !!

If you are planning any sort of bodywork and want to lose the UC truck tail lights then just cut them out. I honestly wish I had done it sooner !!

Thanks again Dirt and Berro for the inspiration :spoton:

Saw some interesting LED lights on a tow truck- they were a line of 5 red rings with the indicators in the centres.

Sorry no pics, to busy driving and not a clear shot anyway...
