What brakes would be best for a LC with a V8?

Could you have the standard brakes of a LC while braking for a V8?

I just wanna know the options of what kind of brakes i can put on...
I heard that HQ brakes can be placed on... what about commodore brakes etc...
even with adaptors etc...????

Commodore brakes would be the best option for budget. Allow at least $1000 though.

HQ work but depending on what V8 you put in you might have trouble getting it approved.

Pretty much if you pull a 308 out of a HQ put on HQ. Or Pull a 304 out of a VN put on Commodore etc.

Cheapest upgrade, would be to upgrade to UC Brakes and rotors. That way you can keep the Torana stud pattern and all the other stuff too! I think its a very easy conversion!

These are better brakes than SS's and SLR5000's had. If you are going for a better upgrade. Go the HQ brake upgrade, this will require a Stud pattern change though (No hassle, more and better wheels available!)

Up to how much you want to spend, and how serious the motor will be

UC???..Yuk!...I was happy with the std GTR Girlings on the HDT LC V8..It depends on what power level you decide on. When Ronaldoredsox bought yellow he dramatically upped the power...then found at Sandown they were not up to the job...Think he fitted Nissan 300ZX 4 spots but had to fit 15" wheels to clear them...get an email to him to confirm...I just used the engine braking to slow it down a fair bit when I had it but with a 50% increase in power that was not an option for RRS..The UC /LH single piston stuff is no better than a get set of std twin piston LJ Girling calipers..ask Datto....you need to step up the game if you want real stopping power.Hope this helps.

why not consider the hoppers stoppers 300mm kit as well? will need 15" rims to clear but greatly improves the braking power.

Is that right Rory, i understood that the LX upgrade was better due to larger disc area. They are only 1 piston though.

In Wa the standard Lj brakes are good enough for passing rego with a 308.

Yeah, Good point on the wheel sizes... What size rims are you planning to run?

13" you can probably only run Torana Brakes

14" HQ brakes or torana brakes

15" + go nuts! HAHA what ever brakes you want!

What's the difference in handling/steering between using hq stubs or keeping the torrie stubs?

Why would you spend a grand on commodore brake that are only twin piston
when you can get these on there for the same amount

Thanks LJ355, the reason i ask, i know these Outlaw brakes are in the US, and if i want to buy some other brand brakes from the US i can use this as reference by using the part number. So if i want Baer or Willwood i can refer to this Out Law bolt patern by its part number

HQ stubs
HQ discs
Outlaw 4 pots
HQ wheels 14" or greater

Does that sound about right?

Thats about right Jbird

They may not be designed for street use but i bet they work better
than any HQ or commodore caliper

well you can fit HQ stub axles, but as far as im aware they throw the front end geometry up the creek and bump steer becomes a big issue,
i havent actually tried HQ stubs myself because of being told about these problems, i got the hoppers stoppers 290mm kit myself and the engineer has told me it doesnt really matter it just has to pass a braking test (thats in vic with an rb30 being fitted)

how much was the 290mm kit if you dont mind me asking? and what was involved? change of master cyliner? brake lines? or just a bolt up job?

290mm kit goes from $1200 (smooth) up $1350 (drilled and slotted) + delivery
