Gooday - I am just about ready to change over and put my UC k frame in my LH.As I dont have an engine crane I was going to just try to jack the engine and then support it with a car jack stand.Has anyone done it this way or is it going to be too difficult.

Or any other ideas

Chuck.

I used a saw horse and ratchet strap to hold the engine up while the front-end was out.

The saw horse sat on the rails, i put ratchet strap around the horse and engine.
Undid the engine mounts, jacked the engine up a little, tightened the strap so the engine was held above the front-end.
Lifted the car up and sat it on stands, remove wheels to take off calipers and hang them safely, put the wheels back on, jack under the front-end, undo the 6 bolts and let it down and roll away.

I did the front-end change on my own in about 4-5 hours.

I do suggest a good quality ratchet strap.

Dont forget the steering shaft!

Perhaps a good market on ebay if you were to paint the saw horse Rocket Red and stencil G.M.H Dandenong on the top :D

What an OHS nightmare !!!
Should be ok as long as the horse doesn't slip or go lame in 1 leg...
It goes without saying not to lie under it yourself while its supported in this manner.

Slightly off topic, but did anyone see the article in the latest Street Machine about the 'Project EH'? the first page of the article had a picture of two kids sitting in front of the car, with their legs underneath it, without a jackstand in sight...

Just to be clear, i put the ratchet strap over the length of the board so that the engine was hanging on the legs, not around the middle of the board.

Definately "do not get under the car" while the engine is hanging free without the front end in place, i didn't!

I also said to get a good quality ratchet strap, i used a truck type strap, the engines weight shouldn't be able to break that.

I also said to lift the engine with your jack and adjust the strap to support the engine only, not too lift it where it could be damaged by dragging it on something sharp.

Other than that it's simple and it worked for me.

Steel horses don't get lame :tease:

The way you did this was a lot safer than the method used to remove the 202 from the HEATHcote car in the driveway

Hello ended up making an engine lifter based on the wooden horse principle.Thought I should do it to keep the forum OHS officer happy and also to stop fom dropping my engine on the ground.Used my old useless spring compressor bolts to supply the lifting force.Cost about $40 to make- Chuck :spoton:

Yes , very clever. I used similar setup with old spring compressors and couple of bars to press my bushes into suspension arms.
I dare say you could do the same with your new tool.
